What you really need to know
Thank you to all families for making time to come in to meet for conferences. Our first round is already done. It's is really a pleasure to hear your point of view on how your children are adjusting to life at Eliot.
If you have volunteered to provide supplies for our Pumpkin/Halloween celebration,
please send in supplies by next Wednesday, 10/28. T
Happy birthday to our two newest six year olds: Tobi and Joseph reached their halfway to twelve milestone this week. Then it's just a short hop, skip and a jump to 30 from there.
Thanks to Eli's mom Charla for being our Mystery Reader this week! She and Eli shared the silly story Donut Chef. And it's unanimous. We. Like. Donuts.

What we've been up to.
- We read The Little Old Lady who Was Not Afraid of Anything, which is about a little old lady who is kind of a little bit afraid of some unusual pants and shoes and gloves that just happen to follow her through the forest. It's a really fun story to retell with silly sound effects.
- We practiced writing the letter Ss and the number 8 this week because, guess what? There is an S hiding inside the number 8.
- Everyone made and read their own book called In the Box. We worked on pointing to each word as we read (so we read with voice/word match) with mini-finger flashlights and are focusing on using beginning sounds to decode (and write) words. We are learning to recognize the sight words IN and THE.
- We made an awesome art project, using many steps, to create some funny monsters inspired by Ed Amberley's book Go Away, Big Green Monster!
- We practiced lots of oral storytelling about "the time I ate too much". Two words. Hi-larious.
- We learned to write the shortcut date (e.g. 10/23/15) and practiced counting by fives.

The things kids say. For real.
The students council announced over the morning PA address that Dress like your teacher day would be coming soon.
Student: Do we have to dress like you?
Mrs. Cohen: No.
Student: Good, because I don't have any jeans.
Apparently, it's a good thing fashion is not part of the common core or I'd be in big trouble.
