Thank You!!
Let's make the absolute best of the second half of our year together!!
Book Exchange
Upcoming Week: Reader's Workshop
This week students will spend some time reading and researching about Christmas in other countries. We started this reading last week. We read about Mexico, Germany, and Italy. Students will get to choose their country to research this week. Book reports are also due this week , Monday thru Wednesday. The kids will present their book reports to the class on Wednesday and Thursday. If you need more information on the reports, see below.
Book Reports: Your student should have brought home a packet of choices for their book reports. I hope this made it easier for you to see what is expected of the students. My main goal for this assignment is that each student reads a book from cover to cover and thinks about it in the end. Many students have been dropping books after a few chapters. It is really important for kids to see that they can read a full book from beginning to end. Plus, what a feeling!! Please let me know if you have any questions about the assignment. I would like for them to be turned in between Monday December14 - 16. The kids will present on the 17th and 18th.
Upcoming Week: Writer's Workshop
We will continue to work on our nonfiction books this week. Students will make last minute edits and additions to their 'books'. On Wednesday we will have our celebration and sharing time for these pieces. I am so proud of each students' hard work. If you want to come and share in this experience, please let me know. You will need to have a volunteer check of a level 2. We will celebrate at 12:45 - 1:25.
There will be no spelling/word study test this week.
Upcoming Week: Math Workshop
We will have only a few days of math this week due to all of the special programs and events happening. We will use every minute of our math time to work on multiplication strategies and problem solving. I will give students a short quiz to inform me of where they are with their knowledge of multiplication/division and what we have been studying. Please continue to study multiplication facts at home.
Find online multiplication games. I will be introducing students to a few online resources in the very near future. This is a good one: http://www.hoodamath.com/games/multiplication.html
