Art: The American Way
Manifest Destiny
The Manifest Destiny is a period of time in American history in which Americans believed it was their destiny to expand the reach of their country and democracy from coast to coast. This attitude succeeded in expanding the United States and democracy to a large fraction of the continent. Native Americans were converted but some felt as if they were once more being forced out of their land.
Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was the transaction between the U.S and France in which the U.S payed $11,250,000 in exchange for 828,000 square miles of land which would eventually turn into 13 new states.
Oregon Territory
Oregon Country was the go-to area of the Manifest Destiny period as the first settlers had told of tall wheat and fat pigs essentially acting as advertisers for the land.
Texas Annexation
The Texas Annexation was when Texas was accepted into the U.S as a slave state. This kept the British from attempting to tamper with the U.S tariff and slave system, but at the same time made tension with neighboring Mexico.
Mexican Cession
The Mexican Cession was land Mexico ceded to the U,S in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago after the two year long Mexican-American War. The U.S did pay 15,000,000 and 3.25 million for debt of citizens. The around 525,000 square miles of land acquired would soon later become four new states.
