A Message From Principal Abeal
Happy New Year! West Belmar School looks forward to an exciting year of academic, emotional and physical growth for our bear cubs.
This month the students will be participating in the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) mid-year assessment. The DIBELS test will help identify specific reading skills to measure students reading fluency, decoding skills and comprehension. Reading Specialist from across the district will administer the assessment to all students. The results will measure students reading skills and assist teacher with developing an instructional plan for each student.
This month’s PTA meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 11th at 7:00 pm in the media center. Please join us to be informed of school happenings, plan for the second half of the year and prepare for our annual gift auction.
School will be closed on the 15th for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The second marking period ends on the 26th.

Student Wellness
The month of January is dedicated to the exploration of the mindset, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE teaches that everything that exists was once an idea that someone believed was possible, and through that belief it became a reality.
Through this mindset, we learn to envision a wonderful life, expect greatness, and effectively execute the process of making dreams come true. In doing so, we plan the small steps to take every day on the road to our dreams. We embrace creativity and imaginations, look on the bright side of things, and turn mistakes or setbacks into opportunities.
4 Key Components:
- Dream Big
Embrace Creativity
Think Positive
Act and Adjust
