Team FMS: Together, We Can! - January 4, 2016
Welcome to a new year at FMS!
Mr. Chapman
Happy New Year!!!
This Week in Art Class
8th Grade Wheel Classes will begin on a collaborative project from the Elementary where they recreate Monsters designed by elementary artists. The 8th graders will try to bring more life out of these clever little creatures.
My 8th Grade all year class will begin a drawing unit on parts of the face and will do self portraits in full value eventually. for right now we a breaking down the parts of the face and drawing ears, noses, and eyes as practice and repetition is the only way to develop these skills.
7th Grade is somewhat staggered in completion of projects, between wheel classes and all year they are working on illuminated letters and should be finishing these up in the next week or two.
6th Graders will be working on portraits as well, as they will be doing a torn paper self portrait which will be somewhat an introduction to abstract concepts and problem solving in creation.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at cchapman@fulton58.org

In addition to continuing to improve their keyboarding skills, all computer class students made GIFs (animated images). The 7th and 8th grade continued with their Hour of Code, while the 6th graders were assessed on knowing computer part functions. We all had fun Wednesday and Thursday trying out the Google Cardboard while we experienced 3D Virtual Reality. (see pictures below)
Upon our return from winter break year long classes will learn to make presentations using the Powtoons app, while the 6th grade and "wheel" students will learn and use keyboard shortcuts.

The 7th grade classes that visited the library on the last day before break were able to experiment with our new littleBits. LittleBits are small electronic modules that snap together and allow students to learn about electronics while building something fun.
We kept it simple, chaining together the circuits and creating buzzers and lights, but the internet is full of amazing products and inventions using littleBits. Check out this video of a doorbell that, when pressed, will send a text message alert to your phone! The students were completely engaged and I can't wait to share the excitement with more students in the near future!
As always, feel free to contact me at tschenewerk@fulton58.org with any questions or concerns.
