Pawsome News
June 2, 2020
Dear Pawsome Loring Families,
It's hard to believe that we are now in June! I truly miss sharing the day of the week each morning with our school community during our morning announcements. At home, I have been going over the calendar with my 3-year old son each morning and it was so fun to watch him notice that the word day is on each day of the week. "Mommy, look do you see what I see? Sunday and Saturday, they have the same thing!" I am sure you are having lots of opportunities to see these "ah ha" moments with your own children during remote learning.
This weekend has been a very scary, sad, and emotional time for my family as we watched the news, checked in with friends and family, and observed the pain and anger that so many people are feeling across our country. There are a lot of things happening that children don't understand and that may confuse, worry, or anger them. We must recognize the importance of coming together to raise children who demand equality and lead with kindness in their hearts and actions. I have said before how proud I am to be part of such a caring, inclusive, and supportive community, and now more than ever, we need to come together and support each other and our children.
Here is an article and website that may be helpful to your family. I continue to make it my priority to make sure that all students and families truly feel part of our Pawsome Loring community. Should you have thoughts, questions, ideas on how we can do better, please reach out to me.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
Be well,

Virtual Community Celebration
The Loring Virtual Community Celebration is here! This week teachers will be sending the link to their students via their google classrooms and/or classroom communications to families.
Please enjoy the video, and thank you to Mrs. Gillin, Mrs. Stout, and everyone who worked hard to make this happen!
Virtual Art Gallery
Our Virtual Art Gallery has really taken off and is full of creative submissions from the weekly district art lesson packs. The Sudbury Art Department continues to be blown away by the creativity of our students. Thank you for your support with emailing me photos of artwork. I will be continuing to upload art to the gallery as it is sent to me until the end of the year, so encourage your children to share their weekly art lessons with me.

7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
“Kids Tweens, & Quarantines” is a presentation for parents focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on our children. In a dynamic fashion, this talk will address the young brain, explain how and why parents need to practice self-care, survey the signs of anxiety and how to be of support to their anxious child, explain the grieving process, and address the “new norms” everyone is adjusting to during this unprecedented time.
This event will include significant time for parents to ask questions and get concrete answers for practical steps they can take in real time --- who has time to wait?

Sign-Up for Student Belongings Pick-Up Reminder
We will return students' personal belongings and collect school-issued materials (library books, literacy materials, classroom materials, technology devices) during a curbside exchange at Loring on Tuesday, June 16 and Wednesday, June 17. Each family will sign-up for a window to come through our car line, receive students' belongings and return any items needed to come back to school.
When you arrive at Loring, you should enter the Car Pickup entrance (near the baseball field) and drive around the building stopping at the gym doors. A staff member will place items in your trunk or backseat.
- If you do not have school-based items to return, you will drive straight out of the school parking lot.
- If you have school-issued items to return, you will continue driving and turn right to stop outside the front of the school. There, we will receive the items from you.
Our transfer will be contactless. Our staff will have masks and gloves on during this process.
Here’s how the process will work:
1) Parents will sign up for an available slot on Sign Up Genius here. Be sure to list all of the names of your children on the Sign Up so we have their bags ready and only 1 slot is needed per family regardless of how many Loring students you have. Arrive at school during your assigned date and time only.
2) Please label everything you are returning with your child’s name and where it belongs. For example, “Leo Leopard, Mrs. Havey’s classroom.” Please put a Post It note or piece of paper with this information inside the book or item being returned.
3) Display your Yellow Car Pickup in the passenger side window (if you still have it) or a piece of paper with the last name of your children.
4) We ask that you put any items that you are returning to us in the trunk or back seat of your vehicle. A staff member will take it out of your trunk.
5) You must remain in your car. Our staff will be wearing masks and will remain socially distanced from each other and from you.
6) Please be sure to follow the directions provided as you arrive, including pulling your car up as far as you can to accommodate all the cars for that time slot.
7) Thank you in advance for your patience. We will do our best to make this process as smooth and simple as possible, but we will have limited staff members due to the need to remain socially distanced. Thank you for understanding that this process may take a little time. After all, like so many things, we’ve never tried this before!
Lost and Found Items
Lost and Found items will be distributed as they are able to be identified. Items of unknown owners will be kept until parents and students have the opportunity to visit the Lost and Found upon our return.
