Growing Kind Hearts & Minds While Inspiring Personal Success

From the Principal

Dear Families,

What a great start to our school year! Your children are full of excitement and have a love for learning, being with friends, and of course recess. The assessments for our baseline data have started to be collected by all teachers and staff so we will know how to grow each child individually. We are so thankful for the time we spend each day with your kids.

There are so many exciting things coming up and we hope that you will check out our Facebook page and website frequently to get all the updates.

Please join us for the Elementary night at the Varsity football game September 13, 2019. We can’t wait to have those football players visit our classrooms to read to our kids as well. It is so amazing to be in a community school where we can collaborate with K-12 students.

Thank you for sending us your very best!

Welcome to the Building Healthy Communities Program

This year our school is involved in a program called Building Healthy Communities

(BHC). It is a school-wide health initiative which provides students opportunities to

make healthy choices. This program uses a school-wide approach which engages principals, classroom and P.E. teachers, after-school club advisors, other staff members, and parents to encourage our students to choose healthy foods and be physically active every day! BHC

combines healthy eating education with physical activity to make our school a healthier

place to learn. Our school will receive:

  • Healthy eating education lessons co-taught by a Healthy School Coordinator and

our teachers in all K-5 classrooms. Each lesson includes a healthy eating activity

and a physical activity break. Some lessons will include a healthy food tasting to

expose children to possibly new, nutritious foods.

  • Training and resources for P.E. teachers and new equipment for the gym and

playground.

  • Funding to start a Healthy Kids Club so our students can try healthy snacks

Reading Minutes

To encourage reading at home as well as in school, the PTO is once again sponsoring a motivational reading program. The children earn rewards for each sheet (200 minutes) that they complete and turn in. Independent reading, listening to audio books, and an adult or sibling reading to the student all count! Students can earn a total of 15 fun prizes including books, pencils, erasers, a water bottle, candy, and the ultimate prize, lunch with the principal! When your student earns lunch with Mrs. Jackson, he/she will have read at least 3,000 hours! That quite an accomplishment! Reading Minutes collection dates will be every other Monday morning starting October 7th. If you would like to help the PTO on Mondays with collecting papers and passing out prizes, please contact us at comstockparkpto@gmail.com or through our Facebook Page Comstock Park PTO.
