A message from the Principal
Kia ora tatou, Mālō e lele, Ann yeong haseyo, Ni hao, Dzień dobry
As the last couple of weeks of the school year approaches, it is natural to ease off your expectations, however we ask that you keep the expectations high. Please keep sending your child to school on time, in the correct uniform and with a healthy lunch, their school hat and all they need for the school day. We will be continuing the learning through into the last week as this is still valuable learning time.
The teachers are currently completing their OTJ’s (Overall Teacher Judgements) on the key learning areas, ready for input into the end of year school report. The report also includes an overall general comment and effort grades for the learning areas. Progress Reports will be hand given to all students on Thursday 15th December to take home and share with you. This is also the day you will find out your child’s class for next year. Students will visit with their new class and teacher the afternoon of Thursday 15th December. This supports our students with getting to know a little about their teacher, who is in their classroom and overall transition before the first day back next year.
There have been many hours put into class organisation for 2023. Even if you think your child should be with a different teacher, please be positive as all our teachers have great skills to offer. There is no option to move children after the lists are set and your reactions influence how your child will view their new class.
Some classroom moves in the last week of term As part of preparation for 2023, on Monday and Tuesday next week, some classes will move to a different classroom for the last few days of the school year. If your child's class moves, a note will be put on the classroom door to let you know 'where has the class moved?'
What is happening this week?
Christmas Concert - It’s happening tonight, rain or shine.
If the weather gods are not in our favour, we will hold our Christmas concert in the hall. We look forward to seeing everyone later today.
Prizegiving 2022 - Tomorrow -Thursday 8 December
Venue: Pinehill School Hall
Year 1-3 Prizegiving is at 9.00am (approx 1 hour duration). Please ensure that your child is at school by 8.45am. Along with some singing and other group performances we will be presenting effort, citizenship and academic certificates. Parents of children who are receiving an award have been notified by email. Families of children in Year 1-3 are all welcome to attend.
Year 4-6 Prizegiving is at 5.00pm (approx 1 1⁄2 hours duration). Students will need to arrive, in school uniform, between 4.40-4.50pm to assemble on the court by the hall. Parents will be able to enter the hall from this time. The format for the Year 4-6 prizegiving/graduation ceremony will be similar to previous years. All Year 4-6 students who are attending need to be accompanied by an adult. Seating is limited to two adult seats plus younger siblings (if attending). Year 1-3 siblings do not need to wear their school uniform.
Parents of children who are receiving an award have been notified by email. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini
Success is not the work of one but the work of many.
Ngā mihi nui,

School Holiday Reading Support
The Mid Bays Literacy Steering group have put together a whānau guide to reading at home. This has been created using research on how best to encourage children to read at home/read for pleasure and how families can support this. The creation of this has been timed with leading up to the summer holidays where traditionally there tends to be a wee slump in reading.
The pdf discusses different ways to incorporate reading and building a reading culture at home with things like reading together, audio books and activities like visiting the library being particularly powerful. There is also a translated Korean version and a Mandarin version.
