Occupant Safety Laws
https://www.dps.texas.gov/director_staff/public_information/occSafetyPrgmFAQs.htm
A Few Reminders:
- All children younger than 8 years old, unless taller than 4’9”, are required to be in the appropriate child safety seat system wherever they ride in a passenger vehicle. The safety seat system MUST be installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Texas law does not specify where in the vehicle a child is required to ride – BUT – the law does require that all child safety seat systems must be used according to the owner’s manuals. It is recommended to follow the vehicle manufacturers’ requirements and recommendations to keep all children 12 years old and younger properly restrained in the back seat.
Welcome new AP
Mrs. Mercer had a wonderful opportunity to join Ford Middle School as an assistant principal. This opened the Assistant Principal position at Boyd Elementary. After seeking staff input and interviewing a group of highly qualified applicants, we were able to find just the right fit for our school.
Welcome as our new Assistant Principal, Jenna Capps!
The 2020-2021 school year marks Mrs. Capps' 11th year in education. Mrs. Capps taught at Boyd Elementary Kinder, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade for seven years. She then went to Rountree as a Math/Science Coach, and currently, she is their Behavior Coach. She has a tremendous love for our Boyd students and a deep knowledge of how to meet their needs both academically and socially. She lights up the room with her positivity and love for others. We can’t wait to get to know her more! Please join us in welcoming her to the Blackhawk family!

Allen STEAM Ambassadors Tutoring Program for 5th & 6th Graders
Allen STEAM Ambassadors (a student leadership program with a STEM/STEAM focus), provides a virtual tutoring service that was developed by the students in the program. The STEAM Ambassadors are top high school students that excel in science and math. The program was piloted a few weeks ago with 7th and 8th graders, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Starting tomorrow it will be open to students grades 5th -9th grades needing support in math and science. While it is not a replacement for tutoring with their teacher, some virtual students could benefit from this type of one-on-one virtual support.
Details on the program as well as the required forms/materials are included on the attached flyer.
Creating Art Together
On November 5, 2020, we will be hosting our virtual Creating Art Together event. Art is a visual symbolization that captures your child’s unique expression and creativity. By engaging with your child in this art activity, you will promote a healthier social-emotional relationship between your child and you. Once you finish your art project, please take a picture and e-mail it to Mrs. Chavez at patricia.chavez@allenisd.org
Please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/jP3ruxVRuyN1MaSeA to reserve your art kit.
