Discovery Elementary School
January 12, 2021
From the Principal
Dear Discovery Families,
We are excited to be back in school and kicking off 2021!
This month we will be completing our Winter Benchmark Assessments. We are excited to see the academic growth our students have made already this year! These assessments are fairly short and taken in the classroom. Your child's teacher will be sharing results at the end of the month. Encourage your student to SHOW WHAT THEY KNOW! We use the information as a school to carefully monitor each student, and teachers use it to provide what each student needs to grow academically!
Our building has participated in two safety audits since November. I'm proud to share our visitors have raved about our students! Our safety protocols and implementation have been commended!
Thank you for your support in all things Discovery! We are so fortunate to have such a supportive community!
Happy New Year!

COVID-19 Reminders & Information
- If someone in the household has a Covid-19 test, the whole household needs to quarantine until test results are received. DO NOT SEND YOUR STUDENT TO SCHOOL WHEN WAITING FOR A FAMILY MEMBER'S TEST RESULT.
- Please contact school nurse if your student has been exposed to Covid-19 or is tested for Covid-19. Isolation is critical in slowing the spread at our schools.
- A negative test result AND a doctor's note are required for a student to return to school. The negative test alone is not enough if student was or is symptomatic.
- Any Covid-19 like symptoms should not be dismissed. We must err on the side of caution and keep students home if ill.
- If you are unsure of a situation or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office. Wait to send your child to school!
- If there is positive case at Discovery and your child was a close contact, you will be notified.
Smart Watches and Cell Phones
We ask that parents support and adhere to the policy. Do not text or call your child and expect a response during the school day. If you need to reach your child for any reason, please call the office.
Discovery Cell Phones/Smart Watches Policy for Students
Cell phones or personal electronic devices must be turned off and kept in students’ backpacks once students arrive on campus and throughout the day. GIZMO/Smartwatches may be worn but must be turned off during the school day. If wearing the watch becomes a distraction, the students will be asked to keep the watch in his/her backpack, and parents will be notified by the classroom teacher.
Students may turn their cell phones and watches on once they exit the building at the end of the school day.
Keep the School Day Running Smoothly
- We play outside, even when it is cold! Be sure students have what they need to play outside!
- All adults on campus must wear a mask. If you leave your vehicle, please wear your mask.
- We prefer you remain in the vehicle and use our drop off and pick up procedures. Less contact on campus keeps us safer!
- BE ON TIME. It's hard on the student and impacts the classroom when a student arrives late to school. It impacts the flow! Please make being on time a priority!
- Snacks should be simple and healthy. Do not send candy or sugary snacks to school.
- Changes to end of the day routines should be in writing. Avoid last minute calls.
We do what we do to keep our kids safe! Learning matters. Keeping the day running smoothly helps all students be successful! Thank you for your support!

End of Day Procedures
PARENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISMISSAL:
Our goal is to avoid crowds of adults and students and maintaining physical distance while getting everyone home safe. Please help us by following the guidelines and avoid staging or waiting areas. If you are out of your vehicle or on campus, a mask is required.
- WALKERS/WHEELS: If you are meeting your child to WALK HOME or RIDE BIKES/SCOOTERS, wait for your child on the grass area near the bike racks or at the gate near the back field/Dixon Crossing.
- PRESCHOOL - If you are a preschool parent, park your car, use the parking lot cross walk. Meet your child and the teacher on the grass area directly in front of the outside classroom door.
- K-5 PICK UP: If you are picking your child up in a VEHICLE, use the drive thru parent loop. Remain in your vehicle and continue to pull forward until you reach your child's loading zone. Students will be lined up by grade level in the same location everyday. If you have multiple children, you will be pulling forward and loading at multiple loading zones based on grade level. If you are parked in a parking spot, use the crosswalk once your child is visible in the grade level pick up zone.
