No school - Monday, September 6th - Labor Day
A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
We had a successful start to the 2021-2022 school year. After resolving a few transportation issues on day one, things were very smooth! Thank you for understanding that sometimes there are minor issues that cause delays. We always try to communicate with families as best as possible, but if you have a question, you're always encouraged to call the school. Transportation-related questions should be directed to 330-673-0618.
We have many new student faces at Suffield. Besides of all of the kindergarteners, we have approximately 50 new students who are new to our school this year. This has made our school grow, but we are still just under 400, so we are still relatively small.
We have concluded our week of kindergarten testing and next week we will welcome A-L students on Tuesday and Wednesday, then M-Z students on Thursday and Friday. All Kindergarten students then begin all-day, every day kindergarten on September 13th. We can't wait to have all of those smiling faces at one time!
So far things are going well with regards to COVID. If your child is ill and you'd like to perform a home test to make sure he/she does not have COVID, you can request one from the school. Please just talk to Mrs. Hurd or Mrs. Hahn when you call in and they will arrange to get one for your use.
We would like to ask you again to refrain from arriving at school for morning drop-off before 8:45 unless your child is having breakfast. Cars who pull in and wait are backing up the line and those who have to get on their way to work cannot do so. Please be courteous and arrive at 8:45 or after. Also, please pull forward as far as you can before allowing your child to get out of the car. This will allow several students to jump out quickly as opposed to only a few getting "front-row service". Everyone will appreciate it if cars would pull forward.
Remember to have your child's name card available at the time of pick-up. Please rubber band it to your driver's side visor. This allows the person calling the names to be able to see it clearly. Keep it showing until your child gets into the car. This way we can confirm that we have the right child in the right car!
I hope that you enjoy the beautiful Labor Day weekend with your family. We will see everyone back at school on Tuesday!

Birthday Treats
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.
The Big Red Community Calendars are in!
The Community Calendar begins in September and runs a full year. The calendar does not contain the High School sports schedule this year but it does have all the Field Local important dates. Featuring our Fall Senior Student Athletes, this is the perfect monthly tear off calendar for your family.
Purchase for $10 at BigRedCommunity.com and your calendar will be sent home at the end of the week with your child (specify in the NOTES section, child and building they attend).
Thank you for supporting the Big Red Community Foundation

Counselor's Corner- A Note From Miss Livers
Dear Families of Suffield Elementary School,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Emilee Livers and I am the new full-time school counselor at Suffield Elementary. I graduated from Kent State University with my master’s degree in school counseling May 2021. I am so excited to be part of the Field family and to have the opportunity to work with you and your students. I have heard such wonderful things about the school as well as the community.
My responsibility as a school counselor is to provide services to all students. My goal is to help students in becoming more successful learners through building self-esteem, self-awareness, decision-making skills, social skills, and academic excellence. Additionally, I work to help motivate students to develop a sense of personal pride, as well as a desire to learn and grow in a positive direction. As part of our school counseling program, I work directly with students through classroom lessons, individually, or in small groups as the need arises. Students can be referred to me by a parent, teacher or staff member if they feel a concern needs to be addressed.
Students can be referred to me for many different reasons. Elementary-aged children are often affected by the same life challenges as adults; they just manifest in different ways. Students can struggle with anxiety and depression. Sometimes, students need help making friends; adjusting to a new classroom setting; with conflict resolution; or help with organizational skills. They may also need help adjusting to family situations, such as separation/divorce, the birth of a new sibling, or death of a loved one. These issues can affect a child’s performance and behaviors at school, both in the classroom and in social settings. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know how I can be of help to you and your students.
I look forward to an amazing 2021-2022 school year!
Parent Input is Needed
School Counseling Needs Assessment for 2021-2022 School Year
Your input helps us better serve students and make sure we meet their needs as we transition to the school year 2020-21. We look forward to supporting your child's academic, career, and social/emotional growth. Counselors will address each of those growth areas in the classroom and school-wide activities. In addition, individual and small group counseling will address these areas more specific to the individual needs of students. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey to best prepare our department to serve you and your students. This is an anonymous survey that should only take about 3-5 minutes to complete.
