Varsity - 6 wins, 3 losses. 11 games to go and we're currently the 7th ranked D2 team in the North Coast Section according to MaxPreps. We are 3-1 in D2 matches and need at least one victory to qualify for the NCS playoff selection. We have 4 D2 matches left on our schedule - Richmond, Benicia, Alameda and Concord. After missing the NCS playoffs last year, we can tell this team is hungry to compete for league and get back in the playoffs.

Winter Season Outlook- Boys Soccer
1- -How did tryouts go? What was unexpected about them, what was exciting?
Tryouts went as expected with almost 80 student athletes competing for the opportunity to represent the Broncos on three teams, Freshman, JV and Varsity. The player pool for all three levels presented the coaching staff with many challenges on roster selections. But in the end, we selected student athletes that best fit our 3 pillars of the soccer program and will be great teammates. We knew our sophomore class was strong given the great season the JV team had last year, so having so many Sophomore's on the Varsity team wasn't that much of a surprise, but means we're young on varsity experience to go along with returning upperclassmen.
2- What are you looking forward to for your season?
Every season our 3 pillars of community, academics and athletics guide us to success. Our program, individual team and student athlete goals will vary, but beyond to obvious varsity level league, NCS and NorCal trophies, we want to win in the classroom again and go for a 4th consecutive Scholar Team award for outstanding academic team success. During this month we'll be focusing on our culture - being a great teammate - and the effect that has on our success on and off the field. The soccer side of things will take care of themselves, it's the team and program culture that we have to continue to work hard at each new season.
3- What do you do to build team chemistry and collaboration at the beginning of your season?
Similar to what I wrote above, our program culture is cultivated by our strong desire to be great teammates. Our training shirts have number "21" on the back to represent 21 ways to be a great teammate. We work on that by all players reading the book "The Hard Hat" and this season, the varsity team will read "The Power of a Positive Team" by author Jon Gordon. His work has really transformed our program many years ago and we use it has a guide to assist the young student athlete learning about culture, expectations about being a great teammate, and how these life skills can help throughout high school, college and in their professional life. We also will introduce buddy groups that will have an upperclassman at least one Freshman and JV player. These mini teams will work together in building comfort and understanding of being in our program as well as navigating the high school experience. Lastly, we like to eat together - teams that eat together, win together! all three teams will have their share of pasta feeds and team outings at local eateries or at the field post training or games:).
