School Counselor Corner
Support Staff
I have created a Google Classroom for each sixth grade team titled, School Counselor Corner. Through this classroom, I will post upcoming events, as well as helpful information related to topics that we are discussing with students in the classroom. All sixth graders have joined the classrooms, and an invite has been sent out to all parents/guardians to be able to receive weekly updates.
In the middle school, we also have a school social worker and a school psychologist to assist with the social/emotional needs of our students. Please reach out if you need any assistance from us. Below, you will find our contact information.

Topics Covered in 6th Grade
In order to implement lessons about these topics, the majority of our sixth graders will take part in the T.E.A.M class that is built into the Unified Arts rotation during Block 5. This class allows opportunities for small group activities and discussion. Additionally, the school counselors push into the classrooms throughout the school year to work with the sixth graders about future planning. The main focus of these sessions are: goal setting, study skills and career exploration.
Through our school counseling curriculum, we aim to be proactive with our students with regard to addressing topics that may surface during middle school. We work with our students to develop strategies for handling scenarios they might encounter, as well as make sure they know who they can go to if they need assistance. Our goal is to empower students to feel prepared when faced with an issue that requires problem solving.
Goal Setting and Safe Schools
Thursday, October 12
Friday, October 13
During the goal setting lesson, we will be introducing the online software, Naviance. We use this tool to help our students to think about and start planning for their futures. Additionally, through Naviance, we use a learning style inventory to assist our students with understanding how they learn best, and then they can use this information to gather strategies to help them work toward achieving academic success. We also will be utilizing Naviance to encourage career exploration throughout middle school. On the dates listed above, sixth graders will receive their username and password for Naviance. The website is: connection.naviance.com/nfms
Please check in with your children after these days to talk about what they learned.
