The uniform worn by the British in World War 1, known as service dress (SD), it was a loose fitting uniform with a rolled collar, riffle patches on the shoulders, patch pockets on the breasts and side pockets below the waist. The SD tunic comes in 2 patterns 1902 & 1907. In 1907 they changed the pattern because the shoulders got worn down they replaced the removable shoulder straps and added sewn shoulder straps, which ended up being most commonly used. The trousers they wore are made from khaki serge wool. Like many of the other soldiers they wore trench caps. Trench caps were flattened at the top so the soldiers could peak above the trenches and not be seen as easy. The trench caps were made from khaki serge wool. They often had chin straps and brass buttons along the seems.
