Welcome to 6th grade at Cumberland Academy Middle School

We, as a team, have worked hard all summer preparing for a fantastic first year at Cumberland Academy Middle School. We look forward to teaching and expect the best from each and every one of our students and teachers.

Math: Mrs. Hawk- Room 205

Hi there! Mrs. Hawk here. I am one of four sixth grade math teachers here at Cumberland Academy Middle School. Born and reared in Bryan-College Station, I attended Texas A&M University where I played soccer for the Women’s Varsity Soccer team. I found true love there but followed him to Lubbock, where we both graduated from Texas Tech University – I from the undergraduate program and he from their law school. Twenty-five years of marriage and six kids later, we enjoy a wonderful life that’s based in kindness and filled with blessings. I am excited to share my love of math, SAT words and random acts of kindness with these future world-changers…otherwise known as your amazing children and my amazing students. 

ELA: Ms. Thomas- Room 152

Happy 2013-14 school year!!! I received my BA at Colorado Christian University and then moved to Tyler 21 years ago. This is my 14th year teaching and my 9th at Cumberland Academy. I am a single mom of two amazing teenagers. My daughter will be in eighth grade and my son will be a sophomore at Whitehouse ISD. They both received their basic education at Cumberland Academy. I love reading, all kinds of outdoor activities, ballroom and country dancing and spending time with my kids and friends. I spent eight years developing the sixth grade program at Cumberland Elementary School. I am so excited to be moving up to the middle school and working with a fantastic team of teachers! Teaching sixth graders is my passion and to include that with the middle school atmosphere of superior academics, fine arts, state-of-the-art technology and engaging extra-curricular activities is just like setting a big kid loose in a toy store. I expect this to be a fantastic year for my students and myself!
