Crow Island Parent Newsletter
November 15, 2021
Dear Crow Island Families,
We celebrated Veterans Day at Crow Island last week. We had 1st graders who brought in artifacts from family members who served and then wrote thank you letters to veterans. In 3rd grade, students created poppy pins and wrote about a veteran they were honoring. It was a nice way to celebrate their dedication and sacrifice.
This week, we are looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving with our students. As a school community, we have much to be thankful for this year. On Friday, we have our Thanksgiving Assembly that always makes the students laugh and in the afternoon our Kindergarteners will showcase their talents in a Thanksgiving concert.
Stay well,
Luke

Arrival/Dismissal Reminder:
Arrival begins at 8:20am. Please do not drop off your children before 8:20am as our supervisors do not start until that time. If you are dropping off and arriva early, please keep students inside vehicles until 8:20am.
Don’t forget that this week we are making a switch to our parent pick-up dismissal process. Starting on Monday, 2nd graders will now be picked up on the circle drive. If you have an older sibling, they will also be picked up.
You can view the message to parents from Mr. Livingston on 11/12 here.
You can also view the updated arrival and dismissal process. New steps are highlighted in green.
3rd Grade Guest Speaker:
On November 15, Crow will host a special guest, Dr. Amy Brodsky. Dr. Brodsky is a local dermatologist at The Derm (Thederm.com) and founder of the Sun Hero Program, an educational program that teaches sun-safe behaviors in grade schools throughout the US. The program raises awareness of the importance of adequate sun protection in early childhood, and increases adoption of sun safety habits, thus motivating change and reducing the amount of skin cancer in our lifetime. Each child will receive a sun-safety kit with sunscreen and other fun swag to apply their learnings in the classroom at home.
Kindergarten Thanksgiving Concert - November 19th
As a special return to a long standing tradition for Crow Island kindergarten families, we are excited to share that three kindergarten classes will collectively be hosting our Thanksgiving Concert on Friday, November 19th, at 1:15 pm. We are limiting the number of guests to 2 people per kindergartener.
At the conclusion of the performance, we will return to the classroom at which time you are you are welcome to leave with your child. If you have an older sibling who is also leaving, please add the name here so we can have them ready to leave after the assembly: Sibling Leaving Early
Sketchnoting Club Registration:
Sketchnoting Club registration will go live on Monday, November 8th the District Web Store. Questions about sketchnoting should go to Rebecca Landor. You will be able to access it here:https://winnetka.revtrak.net/.
Save the Date - Winter Sing-Along:
This year we are doing the Winter Sing-along in an outdoor caroling format. The students will come together based on last name (so siblings are together with parents). Below are some details:
Date: December 16, 2021
Location: 1st Grade Blacktop
Times by Last Name:
9:00am - Last name A-G
10:30am - Last name H-O
1:00pm - Last name P-Z
During the sing-long, parents will sit with their children, enjoy some hot chocolate, and sing winter songs together. Each grade will take a turn to lead a few songs. More details will be coming as we get closer to the date. If for some reason we have extreme rain or sub zero temperatures we will move our assembly indoors and will limit it to just being a staff/student celebration.
