Taking the Mountain

Adrienne & Jeremy - Multiplying Disciples in SE Asia

Big picture
Romans 8: 38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Taking the Mountain

Looking back on this past 6 weeks, it has definitely been an uphill climb. But I believe that God has been with us every step of the way; He Calls us, He Equips us, and He Sends us! Even when things are hard, we know that as we surrender our lives for the Kingdom, the power of God is right there to carry us, and make a way for us. So when God says 'take the mountain!', it isn't by our strength. This mission that we are a part of is so much bigger than us; and the only way that the people of Thailand and Myanmar will hear the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ is if we join HIM in the work He is doing.

That's been a recurring theme for us since May. It seems like our Father was preparing us for the task ahead. As we settle into our roles in Thailand, it seems like every day the Holy Spirit is opening more and more doors, and reaching into the hearts of new people and places. And at the same time, we see the devil trying new tactics every day to try to take our team out. Where the church is growing and expanding and multiplying, that's where the opposition is fiercest!

And so in the midst of exhaustion, and sickness, and problems, and pride, we hear the voice of Christ calling us onward - "Come follow me". Not into an easy life; not into a perfect church planting movement; not into our vision for what this ministry should look like. We are called to come follow Him as HE takes the mountain. We are called to come into His presence and intercede for the lost, for our team, for the ministry, and for more people to encounter Jesus every day; and praise God that He is making a way in the wilderness! He is opening the doors! He is softening hearts! Praise God that He is worthy of our trust, because He knows the way.

So as we walk with Jesus towards the goal, here are some stories of His faithfulness!

Bang Chalong - praying for 50!

Just last October Pastors Kyaw Lin and Ma Hnin moved into Bang Chalong, home to thousands of Myanmar migrant workers. As they interceded for their new community, Ma Hnin felt led to pray big prayers in faith and to ask God for 50 church members by June! Over the months that followed, they were able to build relationships with many of the people in their area, and the church slowly grew to around 20 people. God was doing it! He was bringing the people in! And Ma Hnin kept praying in faith for those 50.

Just this last week, Kyaw Lin and Ma Hnin were able to connect with a group of about 30 Karen people that live just a few blocks away. This Karen group has heard parts of the gospel, and have taken steps toward Jesus, but have had no one to teach and disciple them. They heard about Kyaw Lin and Ma Hnin's ministry and quickly extended an invitation to partner together. They are hungry to know more about God's word and to be trained in evangelism! Ma Hnin couldn't believe it! Her prayer for 50 people was answered by June!

Pray for Kyaw Lin and Ma Hnin as they continue to seek the Lord in how to bring together these two diverse groups of people to serve the Lord. Pray as they discern next steps for their church family and seek to disciple a large new group of youth. May God continue to guide them as they serve faithfully.

Ko Pho is growing!

Since Christmas, Bo Thong church has planted a new church in Ko Pho! And Ko Pho is thriving! Many new people have heard the gospel and responded to Christ's invitation! Praise God. Just two weeks ago, our leaders were doing some outreach in the community. That week five new people came to their Sunday evening worship service. Pastors Htoo and Su quickly made them feel at home, and shared the gospel with them. And all 5 people received Christ that night! WOOO! Pray for the many new believers in Ko Pho. May this church continue to grow strong and continue to reach their neighbors with the love of Christ!

One of our new interns, Ko Phyo just moved into Ko Pho last week, to continue to serve in the church there and be able to do discipleship and teaching throughout the week. Pray for Ko Phyo as he builds relationship and steps into his new leadership role.

Hunger in Bang Sai

The church in Bang Sai has been through a lot - there were times when we weren't sure it was going to make it! But God has had His eye on this place. Pastor Peter Maung Maung and His wife Heymarn became the leaders of the church 2 years ago; after struggling with addictions for a long time, His life was radically transformed when He met Jesus, and as He's been trained it's become very clear that he is an amazing evangelist! As he's taught the people in Bang Sai, the group has steadily grown as more and more people hear the good news. Recently, every evening up to a dozen church members gather to pray and study the bible together. Bang Sai has even planted a baby church this year! Please pray for the people of Bang Sai that as their hunger for the gospel grows, they would encounter Jesus in a big way. And Pray for Peter as he leads!

Healed and set free!

Serving in the Chachoengsao Lighthouse Church, Pastor Joshua is a man with a huge heart to serve and help others. One day, Joshua got word of a woman in the area that was extremely ill, was told by the doctor she had 3 days to live. Together with a couple of our other interns, Joshua headed out to the woman's house to share the gospel and pray together with the family. Our leaders shared about the power of Jesus, and began praying over this woman - asking God to heal her body. And God answered! She was healed! All that were present in the home were amazed, and wanted to know more about the God that Joshua had prayed to. After sharing the gospel all that heard gave their lives to Christ! Hallelujah!

An Open Door in Kye La Sin

Over the past few months, the Bang Phli church plant has been reaching into a new area called Kye La Sin. Surrounded by factories, this migrant worker housing complex holds close to 10,000 Myanmar migrant workers! The leader of Bang Phli church, Pastor Naing Lin, has made connections with some believers inside, and the whole church community has been come to do bible studies and fellowship in one of the rooms of the complex. There is such a HUGE group of unreached people here, and SO few Christians. As the Bang Phli church takes this step of faith and enters the door that the Holy Spirit is opening, Pray that they would have courage to make disciples and do evangelism! Pray that a new church community would be born here!

What's God up to in Myanmar?!

After being so involved in the Myanmar side of things for almost a year and a half, it's strange not being there! But God is doing some pretty incredible stuff.
Big picture
Our wonderful friend and fellow worker, Sayama Moe, is leading a brand new team of 1st year church planting interns on an amazing journey. They've planted themselves in a new area near the city of Ann, and are already seeing fruit! Beginning by building a bamboo church, these amazing leaders are seeing God move in big ways just a few short months after joining the team. God has given them an amazing children's ministry, and through that they are reaching into the families and homes of the villages around them.

When one of the local villages saw the team's love for the children, they invited them to become teachers!! The team accepted, and now they are teaching 30 of the local children in school as well as at church! Without this, these kids wouldn't be able to receive any education at all. Praise God for this amazing open door - and please pray that Sayama Moe and her team of young church planters would be courageous as they share the love of Christ!

Down south, a new church planting location has emerged in Ein Mya Tha Ya. A small team (including our friend Zinko, who we've written about before) are leading the charge down there. On a recent trip, Pastor Isaiah was able to organize the purchase of land, which included a building that is perfect for meeting and worshiping at!
Big picture
The building is really close to the local school. While talking with some of the local villagers, Isaiah learned that they couldn't afford to pay for teachers for most of the year. Isaiah responded by hiring the community and the school children to plant and take care of 5 acres of star beans, one of the main crops that the MB Mission kingdom business in Myanmar is using to support church planting! The whole community is involved, and through their work with the star beans, they will be able to raise enough to pay for teachers! As a result, there is great favor towards the church and the team down there. Please pray that these crops and relationships would lead to much FRUIT in Ein Mya Tha Ya!

Church Planting - It isn't easy!

So Praise God He is moving powerfully and things are growing - some days faster than we can keep up with! And with this expansion comes growing pains. SO we are asking you guys to pray BIG PRAYERS with us for the lighthouse churches! In this season, many of the church plants that have been established for 5+ years are being asked to take steps towards standing on their own. Over the next 6 months, we are praying for the churches to be able to pay 100% of their rent & utilities. After that, as God provides they will be working towards paying their pastor's salaries and then all of their expenses.

This is a HUGE test for the churches, and for our church planting team. For sustainability and multiplication to happen, there has to be generosity and sacrifice. Please pray that our leaders will be able to lead well, and have their eyes fixed on the Holy Spirit. Pray that we would all serve with humility, and with a lot of grace for each other. It's tough to navigate such a big system change, but for the churches to be healthy and sustainable, it's got to happen.

Please pray with us as we take this mountain as a team!

Big picture
And in the midst of all this, pray for us as we serve - that God would meet us as we go, fill us with Joy, and walk with us! It is such a privilege to serve this team of church planters, and to encourage the church plants. Praise God that we're able to help in so many different areas!
