Jack London was born John Griffith Chaney on January 12th, 1876 to Flora Wellman and William Chaney, his father was not around so his mother married John London, a civil war veteran… He moved the family around the Bay area, until settling down in Oakland, California where Jack grew up before he went gold searching in the Klondike. he also spent 30 days in the brig (prison on the sea) which he said was the most humiliating thing in his life, that is when he decided to become an author.
