Volunteers Needed!
No experience is needed in order to participate as a volunteer and a training will be held before each tournament. Additional details and rules will be emailed to you if you sign up as a volunteer. Below are the general descriptions of each volunteer role.
Referees: Two referees will run each field and score every other match. The most important role of the referee is to correctly interpret and consistently enforce the rules of the game to score the match upon completion. They must also oversee that fields are properly reset for each match, check that teams are placed correctly at the field and prepare them to compete. The time commitment is either an AM shift from 8:15 am to 12:30 pm or 11:45 pm to 4:30 pm.
Judge: Judges will visit several teams conducting interviews and review engineering notebooks. Judges will deliberate and come to a consensus on the teams who will be given awards. Judges will use a rubric to help determine how well the teams collaborated and used the engineering design process. The time commitment is 7:45 am to approximately 2:00 pm. Judges are welcome to stay to hand out the awards at the end of the tournament.
Robot Inspectors: Robot inspectors verify machines conform to specifications and requirements as stated in the official Vex game manual. A checklist will be used to help determine if the robots qualify to participate before the event begins. The time commitment is 7:15 am to 9:15 am the morning of a tournament.
