From the Director of Academic Innovation & Growth - Brenda Montgomery (montgomeryb@selwyn.ca) - Four Weeks Remaining and Students’ Work Counts!
There are four weeks left to this academic year. Thursday, June 11 will be the last day of (online) Middle School classes and then teachers will prepare report cards beginning Friday, June 12 and the following week. In Middle and Senior School, I cannot state a trimester weighting of student work, but I can state that teachers will count all student work completed this Spring in determining their final class result. Feel free to reach out if you would like further clarification.
These past two months have been quite the journey. Students have had to learn or improve upon a number of important skills including organization, self-regulation, and motivation. We have all had to learn new ways of teaching, studying, communicating, relating, and caring for each other. At Selwyn House, our teachers really do care for our students as demonstrated by preparing engaging lessons, enthusiastically showing up every day, and following up on students who miss class or do not submit work. I am concerned about students’ motivation for the next few weeks but with parents and teachers encouraging and monitoring progress, we can help them finish on a positive note and be proud of the effort they put forth in unusual times.
Message from our Student Counsellor, Michelle Rath: If there are any families who have experienced a loss or have a loved one who contracted Covid-19 or any other personal connection to the virus, please feel free to contact me at any time. You can reach me by phone or email. rathm@selwyn.ca, (c) 514.245.0489.
Update on upcoming graduations and celebrations for Middle and Senior School students:
Given that we will not be back at school this spring, various departments have been hard at work re-imagining an appropriate and exciting way to celebrate all our year-end ceremonies virtually. Regardless of where we are, it is important to honour and recognize the various achievements and efforts of our community.
To keep things consistent, we will be pre-recording special, modified versions of the following events and showing them as premieres on our Youtube channel on the originally scheduled dates and times (see below). Awards and prizes will be available for pick up at school in an organized and safe way after the celebrations. More details to follow.
May 28 - Middle & Senior School Athletic Award Ceremony at 7:00 p.m.
June 11 - Grade 8 Graduation Ceremony at 4:00 p.m.
