Office Professional of the Year
Congratulations to Tammy Mohn for being named the MASSP Office Professional of the Year by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals. Tammy is the office manager at Lakeville South High School.
In the MASSP write-up about Tammy, a student is quoted saying, “Lakeville South wouldn’t be the same without our Tammy.”
A favorite tradition shared between staff and students is hearing Mohn lead the weekly Pledge of Allegiance followed by an energetic, “Gooooo Cougars!!”
“You can tell she loves her job and is there to help everyone including students, staff and parents.”
Paraprofessionals Appreciation Week
Lakeville Area Schools will recognize January 25-29 as Paraprofessionals Appreciation Week. Our paraprofessionals provide a variety of care services for individual students including support for instruction and student activities. Please thank our paraprofessionals for everything they do for our students.
Attendance Message
Due to the unique situation that we are in with different ways of teaching, each teacher may have their own way of taking attendance. Some may have a question/quiz they have to answer daily, some may base it mainly off the webex session, some may have it attached to an exit ticket at the end of class, some may have it attached to an assignment. If a teacher is absent and there is not a Webex session, the teacher may assign an assignment that is due that day and will be also counted for attendance. Unfortunately, the attendance clerks do not have access to this information.
If you have a student that has been marked absent from a class and you feel that it is incorrect, please have the student reach out to that teacher to discuss and resolve the discrepancy.
By having the student reach out to the teachers themselves, it allows them to fully understand that teacher's class and attendance process OR to see if it was simply a mistake or oversight.
Unfortunately, the attendance clerks are not able to clear these attendance marks at this time. If a change is to be made, the teacher will contact me for processing of the correction.
All attendance correspondance with our attendance clerks will be done via email. Please make sure to check your email if you've left a voicemail for them.
If you have additional concerns that the teachers or attendance clerks are not able to help you with, you may also contact your child's Dean. Thank you!

ASVAB CAREER PLANNING OPTION
Although no longer a requirement for graduation, Lakeville South will again be offering the optional ASVAB test to interested sophomore, junior and senior students. The next test date will be Monday, February 15, 2021. The testing will begin at 9:00 am and be completed by noon. There is NO SCHOOL that day, so transportation would need to be on your own. All other grade levels will be participating in Opportunities Day events on-line.
The ASVAB offers:
* Great Academic and Career Exploration/Planning information
* AFQT score for those looking at entering a branch of our Armed Forces
* NO COST to TEST, but sign-up is still required for the ASVAB through Infinite Campus Portal Fees
~ Find under Optional Payments.
~ Detailed instructions: ENGLISH SPANISH SOMALI
For more information on the exam itself, visit https://www.asvabprogram.com/. Be sure and take a look at the practice test for this exam in MCIS also.
Contact Julie Peterson in the Career Center if you have any other questions on either of these tests or would like further help in your post-secondary or career planning!
Seniors: Job Shadow Reminder
CLASS of 2021 SENIOR JOB SHADOW: As a component of the Career Portfolio, the job shadow is a required activity for graduation from the Lakeville Area Public Schools. Seniors are typically given the time out of school on Opportunities Day to complete this assignment. This year we will be using March 2nd as the official day set aside for Seniors to do this, or one of the other new alternate activity choices for the Class of 2021. There is some flexibility with this date, but you are not to miss distance learning class time for completion of this activity, so feel free to start your planning during any upcoming time-off from classes.
Please visit the Career Center’s Senior Job Shadow Assignment page for more details, including overall completion timelines and instructions. A link is also included on your Senior Information section off the LSHS home page. If you have any questions or need some assistance, please consult Julie Peterson in the Career Center or check with your Dean. Good luck!
Grad Ads--Due Friday!!!
With everything going on this school year, the yearbook program decided to make all Grad Ads (baby pics) free to the first 250 seniors/parents who submit them to the yearbook email account. Grad Ads are one of the most popular sections of the annual LSHS Yearbook! This is a chance for parents or guardians to publish a baby picture of a senior along with a personal message to the student.
Procedure:
1. Send an email to lshsyearbook@isd194.org.
2. The email subject should be your student’s name followed by Grad Ad (e.g. “Billy Johnson’s Grad Ad”).
3. Digitally scan an appropriate color or black & white photo of your senior as an infant or toddler. Please save as the largest jpeg file size possible and include your student’s name on the file. We reserve the right to crop your photo to fit the allotted space. 4. Attach the photo file to the email.
5. Type a message (NO LONGER than 40 words) to your student in the body of your email.
6. There is limited space for the Grad Ads--the first 250 will be published in the book (on a first-come, first-served basis).
*Did you already send a check with an early-order Grad Ad? All checks previously sent in for the grad ads will not be cashed and will be canceled.
