PTO Meeting and Information
April 19, 2023 Meeting called to order at 12:00pm Attendees: Kim Sharping, Amber Edelen, Katie Sumey, Tracy Weiss, Amy Dietrich-Mark, Lori Blom, Maria Agrawal Principal’s Report Mrs. Sharping gave the Principal’s report. State testing is going on now. Last week was math, today and tomorrow is ELA. So far math has gone well overall. A new procedure has been implemented to help with tardies in which hallways are “swept” before some periods and students receive detention for tardies. Students who make it to class on time get a “sweepstakes ticket” that is place in a drawing at the end of the week for prizes. Field trips, 8th grade party, and retirement parties for 2 retiring staff are coming up. Minutes A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from the March 15 meeting; approved. Treasurer’s Report Lori Blom gave the Treasurer’s report. The current bank balance is $13,049.75. Donations came in for the Panther Party – financial, items like waters and snacks, and volunteer time. The panther party expenses came in under budget (DJ and pizza). More binders were purchased for the Kids Kloset. Staff appreciation expenses are coming up. The line item for grant requests was discussed. Lori will come up with grant summary form. Maria Agrawal has volunteered to be the treasurer for the 2023-24 school year. A motion was made and seconded to approve the treasurer’s report; approved. Committee Reports • Spiritwear – For the 5th grade information night (Tuesday May 9), the spiritwear store will be opened and then closed again around this date. The items will have to be shipped to the homes. • Student Recognition – It was scheduled for April 20 but due to state testing was moved to next Monday. Otherwise going well. • Kids Kloset – Binders have been added as well as feminine products. Amy will continue this committee next year. • Mentor Liaison – At the end of May there is typically an end of year celebration with Bingo and root beer floats. • Conference meals – They were well-received. These came in just over $1000. • Book Fair – No report. • Fundraising – Culver’s night was successful and made $450. A calendar has been discussed for next year. (This year we had a bookmark with important dates.) The calendar would be available to families for purchase with as much information as possible. Ideally these would be available at open house to pay for and take. Pricing and a number to order were discussed; to be continued. • Panther Party – Went well. • Staff Appreciation – Tracy gave a report. Kylee has been making plans for the week and these were shared. Future ideas were brainstormed briefly as well. Kylee will put out a signup genius for anything that’s needed. Amber and Tracy will be in touch with Kylee and Mrs. Sharping about any other needs to round out the week. • 8 th Grade Party – Communication is ongoing with April Lovrien. Tracy gave April the soda and ice cream connections we have. Tracy and April will be in touch. Unfinished Business 5 th Grade Information Night: This is Tuesday May 9th at 6:30pm. Amber and Tracy will attend and show the ptboard website to help orient parents of 5th graders as well as families new to middle school to this resource. The spiritwear store will be opened for that night as well. Chairs for next year: A few are still needed. This will be mentioned at the 5th grade night. Tracy and Amber will confirm with current chairs regarding next year as well. Discussion to be continued. New Business No new business Next PTO meeting May 17, 12pm Meeting adjourned.
