Teacher of the Year
Being an educator for 22 years, I am so honored and blessed to have received the Teacher of the Year award from the AOC - Academic Oversight Committee. The faculty and staff at St. Mark School hold a very special place in my heart. Every school year I fall in love with my class, this may sound cliché, but it’s true. As the days unfold, and turn into months, my class becomes a part of my family. I love teaching and watching them grow in their faith and advance academically. My main goal as a teacher is for children to learn and love school as much as I do teaching. St. Mark School is a very special school along the old Delaware with a big heart.
Giving Back To Our Community
To keep the boredom and loneliness at bay, she had an idea that combined two of her favorite things- cats and sewing. That idea quickly became Minnie & Me Scrunchie Company! Named after her best friend, her cat Minnie who her family adopted from a local shelter, Ava decided that she really wanted to help raise funds for local rescue cats in need. She began creating a variety of hair Scrunchies on her sewing machine and selling them on a Facebook page created and run by her mom to her friends, family, and local neighbors. Her idea quickly took off and her family was overwhelmed by the love and support shown!
In all, Minnie & Me raised over $800 in a little over two months to help her favorite furry friends! She has been featured in numerous articles and posts on Facebook pages recognizing her efforts and to help spread the word of her good deeds. While she is currently taking a break from new orders with school and dance getting under way, she has every intention of continuing with periodic fundraisers and plans to reopen her business in the summer months again.
You can look for her on Facebook under the name “Ava Minnie Scrunchies” if you’d like to see her story and follow her journey!
