Kindergartners and First Graders are learning how to use tools to create a variety of textures on their clay art project. Kindergartners are making clay pumpkins and first graders are making pinch pots. They also learned that a Kiln is an oven that hardens the clay. Once it comes out of the kiln they will be able to paint their ceramic pieces. Second through Fifth grade classes are working in the Drawing Studio to make an Autumn picture. They are learning to generate ideas and to come up with a plan before creating their final art work. They can choose from a variety of drawing tools, such as; colored pencils, crayons, markers, chalk, oil pastels and gel pens. I look forward to seeing their finished project!

We will be working on soccer and catching units this month. The kids will also have a chance to purchase cup stacks and stacking mats with timers, this info will be coming home soon. I always want to remind everyone to wear appropriate shoes to PE class; I still have a lot of kids wearing sandals and boots that are not safe to wear in the gym.

We’ve just completed the PUSIC Dance Party and it was a blast this year! It was pure joy to see the students demonstrate their moves and then grab a family member and get them involved. The smiles and laughter were contagious. Thanks for attending and supporting your student’s hard work! Special thanks to the PTA for making dinner available and helping to publicize the event.
The younger grades are now settling into a variety of song, game and instrument activities designed to sharpen their musical skills. Each class period holds a new challenge and they are rising to it!
Grades 3 thru 5 are preparing to attend the Wichita Symphony in two weeks for the annual Young People's Concert. This will be the 3rd grade’s first YPC event. They are becoming very knowledgeable about instruments, so be sure and ask them what their favorite instrument or fact about instruments is. Project Trio is a unique group that will headline their first concert. Please ask your student about Project Trio, since we’ve been watching some of their performance videos. I’m excited to share this YPC experience with them.
Grades 4 and 5 are also attending the YPC and are also working hard to prepare their musical, “Singin’ in the Rainforest” for the December 4th performance at the Pleasant Valley Middle School Auditorium at 6:30 PM. Fourth grade will handle the verbal introductions of songs and 5th graders are cooking up a technological surprise for our audience. I can’t wait for you to see the result of all this, it should be fun.
I hope all of our families have a wonderful month and make time for music in their busy days!
