Who would do that? Understanding the Akedah
The Sacrifice of Isaac, the Akedah, is one of the most perplexing stories in Torah. What type of God would ask a father to sacrifice his son, what sort of father would be willing to do it? Since ancient times, sages and artists have tried to “draw out” (drash) meaning from this episode. This class will examine the story through midrash both visual and textual.

Assisted Suicide, abortion, organ donation and the fair distribution of health care are just a few of the topics that will be discussed in this course. Modern dilemmas in medical care will be discussed through the lense of Jewish ethical writings.

Why is this book different then all other books: A study of the Haggadah
More than any other Jewish text, the Haggadah reflects the time and ideology when it is published. There are Haggadot with a focus on Zionism, American Heritage, Feminism, Soviet refusniks, vegetarianism and many more. This course will investigate the structure of the Haggadah and how it has been adapted over time. There will also be a discussion about choosing the right Haggadah for you family.
