TAG Academy Highlights for First Semester

Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy Veteran's Day Celebration

What a COMPLETE HONOR it was to host the Atlanta Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen. We hosted our 1st Annual Veteran's Day to honor these legacy makers. The excitement our students expressed was special to observe and witness. I know that they will remember this experience.

Oh the Places Our Students Will GLOW!

Our students who met and exceeded their MAP reading and math goals had the opportunity to party with us at the GLOW party. We had a blast and are looking forward to setting new goals for our next MAP administration.

A Message from the Principal

TAG Community,

I hope this letter finds everyone well rested from our well-deserved holiday break. I would like to share the results from our Georgia Milestones Assessment that our students took last school year in May of 2022. As many of you know, since we returned to in-person learning last school year, this was our students’ most recent state assessment after being home during the pandemic. In previous years, schools received an overall score based on student performance, and this year, schools did not receive a score. Instead, schools received individual scores in content mastery, progress, and readiness.

Due to learning loss during the pandemic, there was an expected a dip in student performance as many students struggled with acclimating to virtual learning. Due to this fact, we have now been identified as a Comprehensive Support and Improvement School.

While this classification was based on last year’s GA Milestones performance, we are proud that in just a few short months our students have shown growth in both reading and math. Our teachers will continue to offer weekly tutoring, involve scholars in engaging instruction, and provide re-teaching/acceleration opportunities for students. Additionally, during planning time, teachers will continue to be deliberate in using data to make informed decisions for students. According to our Continuous Improvement Plan and School Strategic Plan, we will also engage our students in Personalized Learning. In short, this means we will give students exactly what they need instead of having a one-size fits all approach to student learning. By doing this, we will engage all students in Goal Setting/Reflection, and all students will receive targeted instruction based on their needs.

As principal, I write to everyone confident, that we have the right systems in place to support student achievement. Feel free to email teachers regarding ways you can assist at home as we all work collaboratively to move our students forward.

Important Update to the APS Code of Conduct

APS parents and guardians, please take a moment to review our changes to the student Code of Conduct for the 2022-2023 school year. Several major changes have been made to ensure the safety and well-being of all community members. It is important for you to note that effective October 17, all disciplinary infractions involving a loaded Category I Weapon (Handgun) will result in expulsion from Atlanta Public Schools. Please review this chart of changes, and refer to the 2022-2023 Student Handbook by clicking here.
