Dear parents/guardians:
In the event of an emergency at the nuclear power plant during the school day, Calvert County Health Department has provided your child’s school with potassium iodide (KI) tablets. KI tablets are taken to protect the thyroid in such an emergency.
Your child will receive the recommended dosage of KI only if we are directed by the state or local health officials in the event of a radiation release.
If you do not want your child to receive KI or if your child is allergic to iodide, you must complete the attached form and return it to the school nurse.
