October 14 Open House
We welcome our Bengal Parents, Grandparents, and Guardians to come spend time in classes with your Bengals at our annual Open House tomorrow, Monday, October 14, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. You are invited to stop by for whatever amount of time your schedule allows during that window! Visitors who arrive before 7:45 may park in the visitor spaces on the student parking lot side and the last two rows of spaces in the student parking lot (the rows furthest from the school). If you arrive after 7:45 a.m. you may park in the front of the building.
All Open House visitors are required to sign-in at the main office before visiting any classes, and please make sure to bring a driver’s license or government-issued photo ID when you come.

Submit Applications for Seneca Valley High School Programs by November 1
Did you know? Seneca Valley High School is opening a larger school in the 2020–2021 school year to alleviate overcrowding at Clarksburg and Northwest high schools. The Board of Education will make a decision about boundaries in late November 2019. Due to the overlapping timeline, all students interested in Seneca Valley’s application-based programs should apply by November 1, regardless of whether they are in or out of the school’s current boundaries.

Arrive Alive: A Safe Routes to School Forum Set for October 19
The Montgomery County Council of Parent Teacher Associations, Inc. (MCCPTA) and the Montgomery County Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (PBTSAC) are hosting the Arrive Alive: A Safe Routes to School Forum on Saturday, October 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Northwood High School.
This free event will bring together parents/guardians, students, and members of the community to discuss ways to ensure walking and bus routes for students in the county are safe. Sidewalks, cycling paths, bus stop locations, and parent drop-off loops are all important components of keeping kids safe as they walk and ride to school.
Attendees will have an opportunity to attend workshops on a variety of topics including:
-Building a better bus stop system
-Public transit 101 for students
-Crossing guards: Which schools get one?
-How to get (better) sidewalks in your neighborhood
Representatives from MCPS, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, the Montgomery County Police Department, and the Montgomery County Planning Department will be on hand to share information and answer questions.

Forum for Equity and Excellence Set for October 15
The Black and Brown Forum for Educational Equity and Excellence will be held on Tuesday, October 15. The event, which is being hosted by the NAACP Parents’ Council and Identity, is set for 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Gaithersburg High School, 101 Education Boulevard in Gaithersburg.
The forum will bring together Montgomery County education stakeholders, advocacy partners supporting the Black and Brown Educational Equity Coalition, and other community leaders for a discussion of evidence-based solutions to create better educational outcomes for students of color in MCPS.
County to Host Free Flu Clinics in October and November
The 2019 flu season is upon us. There are simple steps you and your child can take to stay healthy and help prevent the flu. That includes getting a yearly flu vaccine.
The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will conduct free injectable flu vaccine clinics on Tuesday, November 12 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for children 18 and under at John F. Kennedy, Northwest, and Rockville high schools. These clinics will be open to any school-aged child. The clinics are free, but registration is required due to limited vaccine supplies. Additional flu clinics for all county residents will be held on Monday, October 21, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and on Monday, November 18, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Both clinics will be held at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville. Upcoming Session to Offer Information on Montgomery College Pathways Program
MCPS is partnering with Montgomery College to provide Early College program options to eligible Grade 10 students. Students and parents/guardians are invited to learn more about Early College at the following session:

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich is holding several budget forums to seek input from residents about Fiscal Year 2021 (FY 21) Operating Budget priorities. The forums are scheduled for:

The County Executive will announce his Recommended FY21 Operating Budget on Monday, March 16. 2020. The County Council approves the operating budget at the end of May.
