I cannot be more excited for next year!
14 years ago, when I first became principal of Amana Elementary, I had a dream of turning Amana into a magnet school. Kudos to Dr. Seymour, with the support of the CCA School board for being the driving force behind making that dream a reality. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) themed magnet program will have a major emphasis on teaching spanish, building financial literacy, incorporating engineering technology, fine arts with our continued success around math, science and english language arts. The first of two virtual find out meetings will be Monday, March 4th, from 5:30 to 6:30, virtual link. We will start by serving our kindergarten students for the 2024.2025 school year and subsequent grades will be added each year making full implementation k-4 by 2029! The possibilities are endless. The current Iowa Standards will continue to drive instruction with the integration of our STEAM elements. This will take lots of work and of course purposeful collaboration. We are just the school (and district) for the job. Check out our CCA website for more information (LINK), make plans to join us on Monday, or as always, shoot me an email or give me a call with any questions. Each day we are more and more excited to be part of such an amazing opportunity that will bring more students to Amana, with intentions to make us more diverse and incorporate even more innovative curriculum opportunities for our students. This will be a family and community partnership! Stay tuned!
FAMILY FUN NIGHT! First and foremost, THANK YOU Amana PTO. If I started to name the individuals I would inadvertently miss someone. Our heartfelt gratitude to you all for your dedication for facilitating this amazing event along with all your support to our teachers and our students! Yes, Family Fun Night is our main fundraiser. Our PTO decided years ago we didn’t want to sell things families didn’t really need. We wanted to stay local and support local. Most, if not all PTO fundraising opportunities include our local merchants. The Amana community is tremendously supportive. To the AES PTO, the Amana community and of course, our families, THANK YOU! Stop on out tonight. Fun for the whole family. Friends and neighbors are also welcome!!
Much admiration to our CCA Girls’ basketball team as they head to the State Championship on Saturday at the Wells Fargo arena. Tip off 2:30 and can be streamed HERE. GO CLIPPERS!!
PEACE!
Ben Macumber, Principal

Due to space constraints, there are no guarantees of preferred morning or afternoon placement. The Clipper Early Childhood Academy located at 415 Deer View Avenue in Tiffin will open for the 2024-2025 school year. North Bend Elementary and Tiffin Elementary preschool programs will shift to the Clipper Early Childhood Academy. If you live in Johnson County, follow the instructions with this School Finder tool to find the attendance center your child will be assigned to for Kindergarten. Parents can select if they want school transportation during the registration process. Students have the option for bus transportation to and from designated neighborhood stops, homes and, to the best of our ability, to currently licensed daycares operating within our district. On March 18th, a representative from the St. Luke’s Child Protection Center in Hiawatha will be presenting a program about “Safe touch” to your child. The “Safetouch” program is an effective teaching tool and presents a positive approach to the prevention of child sexual abuse. The presentations will include the following videos:
“Joey Learns the Touching Rule” for students in preschool and kindergarten.
“It’s Your Body: You’re In Charge” for students in 1st grade.
“You Are In Charge of Your Body” for students in 2nd and 3rd grade.
“Sexual Abuse: It’s Not Your Fault” for students in 4th and 5th grade.
The students will also participate in a discussion about how children have the right to feel safe at all times, the differences between good, bad, and secret/confusing touches, and who they can go to if they need help.
Amana Elementary and the CCA district require active permission from parents/guardians. If you would like to receive more information about “safe touches” or if you have any questions about this program, please call (319) 622-3255 or email me at calistaschwan@ccaschools.org.
