Social Studies
Colonial America
From now until the end of the year, we have many exciting activities planned to finish our unit on Colonial America. We are lucky to live in a area full of enrichment and opportunities to enhance our learning. We will be taking a walking tour of Newtown, locating and reporting on, historical buildings. We will be planning and preparing for Colonial Day on June 4th. Keep a look out for reminders and more information as the year draws to an end.
Writing
End of Year Projects
In May and June, we will be putting in a lot of time with a variety of End of Year projects. These projects will be for special people who have helped to make second grade successful and memorable. In addition, we will be reflecting on much of what we have learned throughout the keepsakes. The children will have choices to write in many of the various ways we have practiced this year, including small moments, non-fiction, poetry and much more!
Math
Many Mini Units
We'll be completing our year with learning about time, capacity, graphs, geometry, and area. These units are short units. We will continue using manipulatives and the skills we used all year for the remainder of the units. Please continue to go over multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction facts at home.
Reading
Practice and Review
As we wrap up the end of the year in reading, we'll be using strategies taught all year and applying them to quilting books and independent reading books. In addition, we will be doing research on the buildings in Newtown for our walking tour of Historic Newtown.
