WBMS Friday Notes
Dec 12th-15th
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians,
Even with a shorten week, WBMS ROCKED IT! Our band and orchestra both played beautifully at their Winter Concerts on Tuesday, and I look forward to hearing the wonderful voices of our chorus students tonight. We celebrated our students for athletics, academics, altruism, and the arts through our Webster Awards and for overall citizenship at the Citizenship Breakfast. To date our 7th graders have collected close to 3,000 dollars to donate to Feed the Children through the Desktop Store event and you, our parents, have donated close to 200 reams of paper to begin building our paper tree in the front office; in both cases more donations are arriving each day. Lastly, our final exam help sessions were in such high demand, Officer Myrick had to arrive early to direct morning traffic, but five amazing 8th graders planned and hosted a fun-filled de-stressor pep rally for each grade level today to remind everyone that there are times we just need to play games, sing, and dance with friends. Each week something new occurs to illustrate the positive powers we possess in our community. We are truly fortunate.
In collaboration,
Rebecca Williams Perkins
Principal, Webb Bridge Middle School

Final Exam Reminders
In preparation for the transition to high school, final exams will be administered to students in all core subject areas: mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, world language, reading, and health. Most exams for each semester, in all grade levels, will be comprehensive in nature. No students will be permitted to take an exam early. Students who have an excused absence on the day of an exam must work with that subject area teacher to establish a time to make up the exam after receiving approval from the principal. Exams are scheduled and publicized through school communications. Students must make up exams within 10 school days after the end of each semester. Administration strongly encourages family travel not be scheduled during exam times.

What's awesome about where you live? What goods and services, historical buildings, attractions, or other notable places do you find the most interesting in your community? We'd love to see those places in our STEM/STEAM graham cracker gingerbread engineering challenge. We are asking that students participate in this STEM challenge, sponsored by Microsoft Skype, to design and construct their own communities and then provide a presentation/tour of the finished product.
We are currently in the process of creating our gingerbread community in room 903.

Parent University- January
The adolescent years are marked by a roller-coaster ride of emotions which may be difficult for youth, parents, and educators. Many students struggle dealing adequately with the stress and pressure of academics, extra-curricular activities, and socialization in the middle school environment.
To proactively address these issues, Webb Bridge Middle School is partnering with the LRJ Foundation by offering a self-care and behavioral health Parent University on Jan 11th in the Webb Bridge MS Media Center.
The LRJ Foundation’s interactive “Wellness Matters” presentation provides psycho-education on mental health and wellness, common mental illnesses, and coping mechanisms to improve mental health.
LRJ’s presentation is two fold:
First, LRJ wants to educate parents on the key components of:
o Mental wellness
o Depression
o Anxiety
o Bipolar Disorder
o Emotional expression
o Bullying
o Suicidal Ideation
Second, teach parents how to:
o Watch for warning signs and risk factors
o Start conversations on mental health
o Support their child’s wellness
o Use positive coping mechanisms
o Teach and model appropriate emotional expression
o Know when to seek professional help
By the end, parents will be better able to understand and support their child's emotional well-being. All of LRJ’s presenters are mental health professionals who are equipped to help parents and children!
For questions regarding the content of the Parent University or for additional support please contact LRJ Foundation for resources.
The presentation has both an AM and PM session.
AM Session- 9:15am-10:00am
PM Session- 6:00pm-7:00pm

Have you thought about Ukuleles?
Thinking about buying something for Webb Bridge this holiday season? The PTA has an idea for you.
Ms Goldstein our wonderful new chorus teacher at Webb Bridge has applied for a PTA mini grant for a set of 35 ukuleles for both her chorus and general music class. As she notes in her request- "A class set of ukuleles would allow us to explore the harmony and form of everything from old classics to current hits in a way that is both experiential and empowering."
WBMS PTA was able to purchase 22 ukuleles through our PTA donations, but we need your help with purchasing the remaining 13 ukuleles (each ukulele is under $30.00) so Ms Goldstein can complete her classroom set and start this new and exciting music experience for both her general music and chorus students in the spring semester.
Please click on the sign up link below for more details on purchasing the ukeles, and to sign up to purchase a ukulele for our school. All donated ukuleles will have a "Donated By" sticker on the back with your family's name to acknowledge the lasting impact you've made to WBMS.

Greetings Parents!
We hope that you and your student are excited for a wonderful holiday season and winter break! During the holiday season, some families choose to bring small gifts or tokens of appreciation to teachers and staff. Your PTA reached out to teachers and administrators to see if there were ways that parents and students could help with normal classroom consumable supplies. All donations can be dropped off in the Front Office. Thank you for everything that you do to support your student, your teachers, and Webb Bridge Middle School!
