The Hidden Army
Introduction
The S.S. was a secret guard for Hitler while he was first brought into power. They would mostly just watch over Hitler and make sure no one came close to him without authorization. After showing promise they then moved up to a police force with the gestapo. As a police force they made secret camps to punish jews. Then finally they became their own secret military force just in time for World War II.
Hienrich Himmler
- Because of sucess of S.S. moved up to chief of police
- Soon became responsible for state security
- Takes control of gestapo and other secret organizations
Secrecy
- Was turned into a secret army to clear out citys and capture rebels
- Secretly clear out ghettos to get people to camps by making tricks or using force
- Would "silence" rebels and people who spoke out
Horrible Things They Did
- Slaughtered over 1,600 italian civilians
- Murdered 130 belgian citizens who tried speaking out
- Many camp prisoners would die from S.S. brutallity
- Make jews dig their own gaves to get shot into
