Garnet Valley CTC Quick Tip #9
The results are back from the 2017 Pennsylvania Youth Survey for Garnet Valley’s 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th graders. We also have results from 2013 and 2015.
The results of this anonymous survey are self-reported and represent 83.9% of our students.
Did you know? While statistics for students reporting “Inappropriate sexual contact through technology” is decreasing from an average of 16% to 14% in 2017, this is still a concern for families. Let’s help our students realize that their schools are safe because the doors are locked and outsiders are not permitted to enter and that their homes are safe because parent/caregivers keep doors and windows locked. But there are no locks on the internet unless families and the students themselves protect their personal information and access from intruders online.
Call to action… Garnet Valley is actively teaching students about protecting their digital footprint on line. Parent/caregivers are an essential part of the team that protects our students. See the list below for tips to make your children safer and the websites below for more information.
1. Do you set times in the day your child can use their phone?
2. Do you require your children’s phones to charge in a designated place?
3. Do you specify the apps that your child can use?
4. Do you know all of your child’s passwords?
5. Does your child know what to do if they receive “inappropriate sexual contact through technology”? The answer to that question is to alert you and an administrator at school.
