Dolphin Splash
NCTV17 @ NYE
As mentioned during my last school communication Payton Thorne recently teamed up with the College Football Foundation and Cheez-Its to gift NYE $10,000! Pictured above is our 5th graders as they took the field to play Dr Football in front of NC17! Once the clip is complete, I will send it out for all to view!
A Note from our Nurse
It is that time of year again where students come in to the health office with muddy and wet clothes. Please make sure to send back any clothes washed that were loaned to your student. Also, if your student is someone who brings home health office clothing often, please consider keeping a change of clothes in their backpack. Thank you for your continual support in keeping out health office stocked for students in need!
The transition begins...
After winter break your 5th grader may start talking about Mr. Davenport. Mr. Davenport is the middle school principal and soon he will be making his rounds as he starts spreading the news about the upcoming transition!
Are you thinking of gifting electronics this holiday season!?!
If so, please make sure you and your child are familiar with D204 electronic "rules" - See image

Chromebooks on the bus
Are not supposed to be used on the bus. They are to be kept in student backpacks.
As always, sending electronic device with your child to school is a parental decision, if a device goes missing Nancy Young staff is not responsible.
Mutual Ground is coming to 1st Grade and 4th Grade
This year our school is again partnering with Mutual Ground, Inc. to provide Sexual Violence Prevention Education programming to our students. The Mutual Ground has been providing programs to students for over 30 years. Additionally, legislation in our state, which is called Erin’s Law, requires all public schools in Illinois develop and teach a comprehensive plan for sexual violence education for student’s Pre-K through 12th grade.
As a part of this plan, Mutual Ground’s Prevention Education Department will be presenting a Personal Body Safety Program in your child’s classroom the week of January 15th. This program will discuss sexual violence prevention at an age appropriate level for our students. It is NOT a sex education program, but a SAFETY program designed to Educate, Inform and Empower students as follows:
Educate: Topics to be covered include
Who Owns Your Body? YOU DO!
Identify Types of Touch – Safe, Unsafe & Uncomfortable
Identify Private Parts – Parts of the body covered by swimsuits and the mouth.
Safety Rule – “No one should touch your private parts, except to keep you clean and healthy!”
Inform: Topics to be covered include
What to do if someone breaks the Safety Rule – SAFETY PLAN! Yell No! Get to a Safe Place. Tell a Trusted Adult.
Trusted Adults – Can drive a car. See them all the time. Can get to them without help.
What to do if someone doesn’t listen to them – KEEP TELLING!
Secrets and Grooming – Safe and Unsafe Secrets. Tricks people use to break the Safety Rule.
Empower: Topics to be covered include
Give them permission to own their body.
Give them permission to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches.
Help them set respectful boundaries.
Mutual Ground also provides parent education through an online pre-recorded presentation on their website www.mutualgroundlearning.org . Click on the Parents portal and click Video in the drop-down menu to view the video presentation. The pre-recording will cover a brief description of the presentation your child will be receiving. It will also be an excellent opportunity to learn about Erin’s Law and what we can do as parents and as a community to help prevent child sexual violence. This program is highly recommended for all parents.
Our school is committed to the safety and well-being of our students and that is why we feel that providing this programming is so important. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Tina Bleakley, Mutual Ground’s Prevention Manager at tbleakley@mutualground.org or (630)897-0084 x137.
Sincerely,
Erin Rodriguez
