Words of Wisdom
No Joke
Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else.
~ Will Rodgers
Sadly, in our society, much laughter is created at the expense of others, whether it is online, on television, on social networks, through emails or texts. Cyberspace reality has made it possible to tease, bully, and belittle others instantaneously and even anonymously. Start a dialog with your students about appropriate cyber-communications and which pitfalls to avoid. Encourage them to seek help for themselves or for someone else if something inappropriate is going on. And then start paying close attention to your own communications whether cyber or face-to-face. Make sure you aren't creating a laugh at someone else's expense and that the only person you are laughing at is yourself.

INSTRUCTIONAL TIP OF THE WEEK
In order for English Learners to experience academic success, they must learn language. Consequently, academic language must be taught intentionaly and is the language that language learners must acquire and negotiate to participate successfully in school. There are FIVE WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards.
Standard 1: English language learners communicate for Social and Instructional purposes within the school setting.
