Mr. Goetz's Corner
This is the last newsletter for the 2020-2021 school year, a year we will not easily forget! I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your commitment and flexibility. We had many challenges to overcome, but I have been so proud of the work our families and staff have accomplished this year.
We had a great 5th Grade Honors Ceremony this week, as well as a fun 'Clap-out' for our outgoing 5th graders, headed to AMS. We also were able to run our 'Field Day' this week. It was great to see so many families participate. Today we viewed the end-of-year video that Mrs. Sheldon put together. What a great wrap-up video!!
Chromebooks may still be returned next Tuesday, June 15th for students. Parents should bring their Chromebook, case, and charger to the library, where we will collect the devices. If your child is CONFIRMED for summer school classes, they will be able to keep their Chromebook for the summer.
We are looking forward to a more 'normal' year next fall. Our first day of school is Monday, August 23rd, which is a 1/2 day, with dismissal at 11:45 AM.
Have a great summer!!
Mr. Goetz

A promotional video for the 2021 Auburn Hills Public Library Summer Reading Program
We do consider graduated 5th graders as going into the program for middle schoolers. If you'd like to share this promotional video with the 5th graders, this specifically talks about their program! https://youtu.be/dtFFWPhGohY
Finally, we have our summer reading page live on our website that includes all of the information in this email plus much more! https://www.ahplibrary.org/summer-reading-2021/

SPORTS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT 2021-22
- Sports Physicals: For the 2021-22 school year, an MHSAA pre-participation sports physical is required for all students who participate in sports. A physical examination must be completed on or after April 15, 2021 to be considered a valid physical for 2021-22. The MHSAA Health Questionnaire will not be in use for next school year. Please be sure to inform all parents and students – especially those who will begin middle school next fall of the April 15 date. The MHSAA two-page physical form has not changed and remains on MHSAA.com. MHSAA physical cards can be ordered by schools as needed.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES
Summer camp option at ECSC
Summer Football Camp for 3rd-12th Graders
This summer, the Avondale High School Football Program will be holding camps for our students. The goal of these camps is to introduce our younger students to the game of football, while teaching them fundamental skills, and providing them an opportunity to meet and work with our coaching staff and varsity players.
Our camp will be open to any current 3rd - 12th graders. This is our biggest camp of the summer. It will take place from June 15th - 17th at AHS. The cost per participant is $40 and includes the 3-day camp, a t-shirt, and pizza. More info can be found on the attached flyer.

The Avondale Family Resource and Support Package has been created to support families, students, and staff during times of need. This is a document that continues to be updated based on resources available. Please review supports and use as needed. Families in need of any of our Avondale Support Team members may also connect with us by email or phone.
Local Food Distributions
Free Food For Families
Chartwells will now be distributing breakfasts and lunches for children to ANY family that wishes to receive them every Friday from 11:00am-1:00pm at Auburn Elementary beginning June 18, 2021. Your children do NOT need to be present, and your children do NOT need to be enrolled in the Avondale School District to receive food.
Jewish Center - Food for Children
The Jewish Center in Troy is distributing free food weekly for families with children 18 and under (without income or location restrictions). Families must pre-register on the site below weekly for 7 Kosher lunches and 7 Kosher breakfasts each week they need it.
Chromebook Turn-In
Collection of Avondale School District Borrowed Devices
The district will be collecting borrowed Chromebooks for the summer. The goal is for students to receive the same Chromebook in the fall (except 5th graders who will get a different device at the middle school). Students that are attending Deerfield for seated instruction will return their Chromebooks at school once the classroom teachers are done using them.
Students that are learning remotely may return their devices to Deerfield on Friday, June 11th from 1:00-3:00 and Tuesday, June 15th from 2:00-6:00. We will be collecting the devices in our library. You may come into the building and walk to the library to return the device.
When turning in devices, we will be checking the following:
- Chromebook powers on
- Screen is not broken
- Keys are not missing
- Charger included and not frayed
- Personal Items Removed
We also ask that the screen and keyboard be wiped down with a disinfecting wipe, or comparable cleaner, prior to return.
Thank you!
