Monthly SEL Theme for the Month of September: COMMUNITY
Last but not least, we must enjoy life - play and have fun - laugh and be well! We, collectively, must understand that believing in these rights and values for everyone is a critical asset in building a sense of community for every generation,
In order for this desire to become a reality you need to be empathetic and demonstrate understanding of others by treating them with kindness, compassion, generosity, and a forgiving spirit. file:///H:/Downloads/Back-to-School_Transitions_FINAL_2017%20(1).pdf
As Mother Theresa said, "Kind words can be short and east to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."

Tips from the School Nurse
10 Steps to a Healthy School Year
1. Eat a healthy breakfast. A healthy breakfast will keep your mind sharp and help you stay alert in class. Foods high in sugar leave you feeling tired and impair learning.
2. Drink plenty of water. Water gives your brain electrical energy for all brain
functions, including thought and memory processes.
3. Frequent hand washing. Frequent hand washing is the most effective way to protect yourself from germs and infections.
4. Boost your immune system. Eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains
and saturated fats. Exercise regularly and get adequate sleep.
5. Have a nutritious and healthy lunch. Choose foods from all the food groups to assure you are getting all the right nutrients.
6. Reduce sugary and salty foods. These foods are empty calories that contribute to obesity, harm your teeth and make you sluggish.
7. Play games that enhance brain performance. Memory games, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles are a few examples.
8. 30 minutes of exercise a day. Ride your bike, go jogging or even dancing are great forms of exercise. This will help control your weight, strengthen your bones and improve your mental health.
9. Make sure to do your homework ! Being prepared will help you function better in school.
10. Relax and unwind an hour before going to bed. No video games, shower and and pack up for school the next day. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep.
