Symbolism - "Is this a dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand?" --- Macbeth sees a floating dagger, which symbolizes the murders he will soon commit. the handle is faced towards him, because once he grabs it, there's no turning back. It also shows what is happening inside Macbeth's head.
Comic Relief - "Here’s a knocking indeed! If a man were porter of hell-gate, he should have old turning the key" --- Comic Relief is used after Duncan is killed by Macbeth. It provides humor after the dark scene of murder, as a way to make you feel better. After Duncan is killed, a drunk porter says drunk statements while wobbling around.
