STUDENT ABSENCES IN X2
A new feature has been added to X2 to help monitor student attendance. Once you click on the top "student" tab, please click on the "field set" icon and select "Default FPS Views". This will show a column next to the name of the student that reflects the percentage that they have been absent in comparison to their membership. You can sort from low to high, or high to low, by clicking the title of the column. This percentage is updated nightly. As a reminder, accountability targets strive to have students absent less than 10% of their membership. Those who are absent more than 10% of their membership are considered to be chronically absent.
MCAS UPDATES
Updated MCAS English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science and Technology/Engineering practice tests are now posted. Additional materials, including updated answer keys and special forms, will be posted in the coming weeks as they become available.
A graphing practice tool is also now available as an additional resource for grade 10 students. Students can use this tool to graph one or two equations and/or inequalities with corresponding solution sets. The tool is posted at the MCAS Resource Center under Grade 10 Resources.
Updates to TestNav for 2020
Several updates to TestNav are being implemented for spring 2020 MCAS testing. Please see the attached “Updates to TestNav for 2020” and note the following in particular.
- Expandable Panels: The new “expandable panels” functionality allows students to expand the left or right side of the screen to make it easier to read passages and/or write responses. The functionality is available in some ELA items and some items for the next-generation Biology and Physics tests for grade 9.
- Calculators: Certain Mathematics and STE tests will have multiple calculators available for students on TestNav. While students can choose from multiple calculators, it is recommended that students use the calculator they typically use in the classroom.
- Zoom: Students will be able to zoom in to make everything on their screen larger.
- Highlight to Hear in Text-to-Speech: When students with the text-to-speech accommodation select text, a “Listen” button will appear alongside the highlighter options. Students can click this “Listen” button to hear the selected text.
PANORAMA SURVEY
PLEASE EMAIL MICHELE WHEN YOU HAVE GIVEN YOUR STUDENTS THE SURVEY.
Survey Administration Details:
When: Please plan on administering the 15-20 minute long student survey at a convenient time between January 13, 2020 through February 7, 2020.
How: Students will take the survey online on Panorama Education’s secure website surveys.panoramaed.com/framingham. Each student will need access to an internet-connected device to take the survey. Students will use their 6 digit student LASID number as their access code. The surveys are available online in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Please visit the Framingham Panorama Site for additional resources to facilitate the survey administration, including the following:
REPORT CARDS
The report card window is officially open. The window will close at the end of the day on January 30th, 2020. Report cards will be sent home on Friday, January 31st, 2020. This link provides resources including blank report cards, a gradebook tutorial and instructions for printing reports for a select group.
As a reminder, if you have any student concerns with academics or behavior, report cards and progress reports should not be the first time parents are hearing about them.
Please be aware that if you have any SEI students in your classes they are scheduled into SEI courses into X2, with the exception of Personal and Social Growth. All elementary schools were instructed to set up courses this way. When you are putting grades in you will have to go in separately for your two sets of students.
Also, please remember that any student who requires translation in either Spanish or Portuguese MUST HAVE their report cards and comments sent home in their native language. Please use this LINK to access the elementary report card comments bank. There are translations in Spanish and Portuguese.
Additional questions have been asked about newcomers and how to complete grading for report cards. All students need to be taught the same district, standards based curriculum and all of our students are able to interact with and master grade-level standards.
There may be students that need different entry points into the grade level standards and ways of demonstrating mastery will vary depending on our students' educational backgrounds, experiences and language proficiency level.
On the report card, the classroom teachers should specify the student's progress to or mastery of the grade-level standards. Jaimie Dobson is available to sit with any staff to help with grading. Thank you!
WINTER ASSESSMENTS
Thank you all for doing the winter literacy assessments. Please let me know if you would like to meet to talk about any results and what it means for your classroom instruction.
Please make sure to get the results into X2 ASAP. I will begin pulling the data next week so let me know if you need more time to enter your class scores.

UNDERSTANDING STUDENT GROWTH
You know every student is unique, and the path they take to reach proficiency may look different. Your Diagnostic Growth reports help you better understand how much each student has grown and needs to grow to reach their proficiency goals, which helps you set goals with students and plan appropriate next steps.
