Kokanee Elementary - 3rd Quarter

Welcome to the 3rd Quarter Newsletter!

The year is flying by! We cannot believe that the 3rd quarter has ended and we only have one more quarter to go. The Specialists are excited to let you know all that has happened in the past few months. Below are updates from PE, Music and Library. Please contact your student's Specialist with any questions.

PE Department

What is Happening in PE?

We are finishing fitness testing for the year with many positive improvements being seen in all testing areas. Great job Kokanee students!

With the weather hopefully warming up more consistently we are looking forward to being outside more frequently. With that being said please make sure to dress your student appropriately for PE with tennis shoes and weather appropriate clothing. We are looking forward to our outdoor activities and the warmer weather.

Track and Field

Track and Field season has started and we are already seeing some good talent and encouraged and excited for another fun season.

If your student is interested in joining track and field they may get paperwork from the office or the PE team, also students may be signed up online.

Music Department

Kokanee Families,

Our music team is so proud of all the accomplishments our students have achieved so far. We are looking forward to Kokanee’s Talent Show on May 2 (Assembly @ 2 in the gym + Evening @ 6:30pm). Here is what our students have been working on:

1st - 3rd Grades:

Students had their own music class “talent show.” We had artists, musicians, gymnasts, magicians, comedians, and dancers who showed amazing talent! We continue to work on basic music rhythms, melodic lines, and movement. We just concluded a “Peter and the Wolf” Sergei Prokofiev & Carnival of the Animals by Saint Saens unit, where the instruments tell the story.

Library Department

What's Been Happening in the Library this Quarter?

Besides checking out new books and the book fair...

1st and 2nd graders have been working on logging in to Destiny Quest, putting books on hold, and lessons on Digital Citizenship. 3rd-6th graders have been working on Book Talks using a variety of technology methods. Students are also presenting these book talks to encourage classmates to read their book!

Read Across the Solar System!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Library's Spring Reading Incentive Program - Read Across the Solar System. Students were very excited and we in the library were very impressed with the student's participation. Many students won a variety of prizes and two grand prize winners won a new bicycle and helmet. Thank you again to everyone who participated and a special congrats to our winners - Xylan Johnson (3rd Grade) and Steven Edens (5th Grade)!

Author Visit with Kate Messner

Thanks to generous funding from the PTA, all 4th Grade students were able to participate in a Skype Author Visit with Kate Messner. Kate Messner is the author of many books including the Ranger in Time series. All 4th Graders read Ranger in Time: Rescue on the Oregon Trail in library. We were than able to learn about Kate Messner's writing and research process from the author herself!

Thank you for another great Scholastic Book Fair!

April marked the end to another successful Scholastic Book Fair. We were able to generate funding for the library and students had a great time looking and shopping for new books! This Spring, money from the book fair will be used to purchase new technology and STEM equipment for students to use in the Library MakerSpace. Thank you again for all families who participated and volunteered to help!!

Thanks for Reading!
