January News
What's Happening at STE?
Dear Families,
Please be on the lookout for homework to be sent home in some classes. Homework in elementary is to practice responsibility and give ownership over students learning. This packet will come home on Monday, include spelling practice pages and a reading log. It is due back every Friday.
We are gaining daylight each day but we know January and February are hard for a lot of people, including students. To beat the cold and dark blues of the day, we like to stay busy! Between now and spring break, we will offer Winter Wellness to all students on Mondays and Wednesdays. Badminton will be each Tuesday and Thursday. We will have a bus that departs school at 5:00 each day there is an after school activity! In school we will stay busy with our second annual Yeti Drawing Competition, The Great Kindness Challenge and a new reading challenge that will be two weeks in February. Teachers continue to plan many fun learning projects and we continue to make the most of in person learning!
Whether your child is working remotely or they are coming to the building each day, I thank you for sharing your students with us and for being a part of our special learning community!
Respectfully,
Emily Austin Jordan, Principal

After School Activities
Beginning on Monday, January 11th, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson assisted by Mrs. Jordan, will coach Winter Wellness. Winter Wellness is offered to all grades and will be after school each Monday and Wednesday until spring break. This is a fun program where students spend time skiing and skating. Usually, students will ski one day a week and skate one day.
Badminton will be coached by Ms. Fisher and is open to all grades on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Some things to know about these programs:
~We have a bus! All students have the option of taking the bus home from these programs. The bus route is different than usual route and will leave school at 5:00.
~Masks will be worn during badminton and anytime inside during Winter Wellness. During skating and skiing, masks are required if students are not socially distanced.
~If students sign up for either or both of these programs, they will automatically stay each time that activity is offered unless a parent calls with a change a plans. Students do not get to decide on their own at the end of the day.
~Students are required to wear a helmet when skating UNLESS parents sign a permission slip saying they do not have to. We have many helmets to use but of course students are able to bring their own.
~These programs are cost free to students and funded by Title I.
A Note From Ms. Fisher
Happy New Year Sutton Families!!
I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and an enjoyable winter break. I hope you all stayed healthy, were able to get some rest and spend quality time together with loved ones. We are at the halfway point of this school year. This year is flying by!

During December, in P.E., the children enjoyed playing some fun seasonal games and more of those will follow this month. As the colder weather has arrived and some of us are spending more time inside, we will continue to talk about making healthy food choices, finding creative ways to exercise every day, and getting enough rest each night.
Our Spring HEALTHY FUTURES CHALLENGE will begin in February. I’m looking forward to seeing all of our Sutton students participating in the spring challenge.
Please remind your children that they need to wear their P.E. shoes in the gym.
In music, during the month of December, we learned about the Composer Georges Bizet. The month of January we will be learning about Franz Schubert and we will explore African Drumming as our schedule allows.
Thank you for encouraging your children to try their best in Music and P.E.!
I’m sure many of you saw Library books come home before Christmas break, PLEASE remind your students to bring them back so they can find new books and authors to enjoy this quarter. 😊 As I have mentioned in the past, we have been using some of our library time each week to learn about digital citizenship and the important skills that help keep us safe on-line. We will continue learning about digital citizenship during the month of January.
As always It is such a joy to teach your children each day! I’m looking forward to more learning and growing this quarter. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions.
Welcome back,
Ms. Fisher :)
