What's the Scientific Name?
The scientific name is called the Trichechus mantus.
In short bursts they can top 15 miles (24 kilometers) an hour.
While cruising, manatees push themselves forward by moving their strong tails up and down.
They rarely fight, and they have no natural enemies.
Why is it in danger, and how is it being protected?
It's endangered from powerboat collisions, coastal development, and pollution etc. These species are being protected by lots of signs being up saying "endangered species nearby" and also lots of Wildlife researchers, Animal control come and take over the area to make sure no harm and no disasters.
