The West Indie Manatee

The West Indian manatee or known as the "sea cow" is a manatee, and the largest surviving member of the aquatic mammal older Sirenia. It's extinct from the Amazonian and the African manatee.

What's the Scientific Name?

The scientific name is called the Trichechus mantus.

Where is it located in NC?

The manatees stay most to the eastern side of the state, the coastal region of North Carolina

Why is it in danger, and how is it being protected?

It's endangered from powerboat collisions, coastal development, and pollution etc. These species are being protected by lots of signs being up saying "endangered species nearby" and also lots of Wildlife researchers, Animal control come and take over the area to make sure no harm and no disasters.
