Sussex Avenue News That You Can Use

Principal's Corner

Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and find themselves relaxed and rejuvenated for the upcoming school year. The halls have been quiet for too long and I am so excited to have the staff, children, and families breathing life into our hallways!

Week of September 3rd- September 6th

  • Tomorrow, Thursday 9/5 is the First Day of School. It is an A day.
  • Please make sure your child knows which bus they are going home on. It may be helpful to put this information in your child's backpack so they can look at it if necessary as we dismiss.

Looking Ahead:

  • September 27th- Spirit Day

What's New at Sussex!

Mr. Kevin Knowles and Al Rapa from Buildings and Grounds along with Mr. Edilson, Mr. Cesar, Ms. Digna, and Ms. Johnson worked tirelessly all summer to make Sussex shine! Sussex had a variety of different upgrades and enhancements. The updates that Sussex has received are as follows:

The parking lot has been paved. Please familiarize yourself with the traffic pattern. In addition, a connecting path from the sidewalk to the side door (parent pick up) has been installed.

The floors in the Intervention Room and New Book Room have new floor tiles and now yield a smooth surface.

New carpets have been installed in the Conference room (formally the CST Room) and the music room.

Their dedication to the Sussex Avenue School community is to be commended. Each member of the team worked very hard to get the school ready for staff and students to return.

Welcome to New Staff

Please help me welcome the following new staff members to the Sussex Avenue School family:

Child Study Team: Ms. Messina, Ms. Masur

Counselor: Ms. Brillon

Physical Education: Mr. Mullen

Speech: Ms. Maritzita

4/5 Bilingual Teacher: Ms. Gomez-Cherismé

Parking Lot Traffic Pattern

Larger signs have been installed to assist with proper traffic patterns when navigating our parking lot. When entering the parking lot, please stay to the right. The driveway and parking lots are one way roadways. Vehicles should not be driving up the driveway to the side entrance nor driving up the driveway and then turning into the parking spaces. One way signs have been installed along with arrows signaling proper traffic pattern. For the safety of all, please adhere to the traffic pattern.
Enriching our youngster's schooling experience takes many hands and the HSA is always looking for volunteers. There are a variety of ways that you can help out including but not limited to chair a committee, donate supplies, translate documents, organize drives, attend events, along with many others. Some of the areas that we are in need of help in can be done from the comfort of your own home. If you have a special talent, or want to be involved but cannot come in during the school day, please let us know! We are always looking for parents to be involved in any way you can!

Please contact our HSA co-presidents Kristin Deleppo and/or Melissa Johnson to discuss how you can lend a hand.
