Category 1: Principal's Comments
The counselors at Lewisville High School Harmon build a positive relationship with each and every student to ensure a safe and nurturing environment where students can work to be successful.
The counselors work to provide guidance, support, and resources to students to educate and ensure they are making appropriate decisions. The counselors meet with our students who are on the academic failure lists, they meet with all students regarding their academic plans, and discuss post-high school opportunities. The counselors have an open door policy and have even created a QR code for students to scan and schedule a meeting.
Our counselors do an excellent job of following the ASCA National Model in order to develop and execute a comprehensive counseling program.
The goals outlined in the LHS Harmon Campus Improvement Plan are all related to student success. The counselors support our students and staff by providing pertinent and relevant professional trainings; they address attendance, discipline, and emotional issues, and they work to ensure a nurturing learning environment. Our counselors continue to speak with parents and increase parent involvement through our Spotlight Lunch Bunch allowing counselors to meet with parents on a volunteer basis and share information on a variety of topics. Lunch is provided, information is shared, and parent questions are answered providing a much more laser focused discussion. These sessions provide another opportunity to support our parents to ensure student success.
Our counseling team provides a tremendous amount of support and guidance to our students, families, and staff. They are vital to the success here at LHS Harmon.

One agenda item that is of particular discussion and focus is that students shall feel safe and positive about their learning environment. The school safety plan identifies and helps troubled youth, recognizes students for non-academic achievement, and discipline records are used to plan programs that address violence prevention and conflict resolution. The BLT guides the development of the school counseling program for the school year by determining program choices and appropriate curricular choices for students. This committee sets the expectations for the year, and the counselors align with these goals to facilitate school, district, and state initiatives.
