Scoggins Band Newsletter
Week of March 16
We Already Miss You!
I hope this newsletter find you all well. Before we get into the logistics of what Band will look like this week I wanted to take a moment to let you know how much we are going to miss seeing you this week. I hope you all had enjoyable Spring Breaks, and we look forward to making music in person with you soon.
As we navigate into e-Learning platforms across all disciplines I wanted to give you an idea of what things would look like for band. The official lesson plan structure will be emailed out from campus admin, but you can expect a combination of playing assignments to be turned into SmartMusic and Canvas as well as Performance Reflections to be watched and submitted in Canvas.
Perhaps one of the most important first steps will be cleaning our instruments(now seems like a GREAT TIME). Please make sure that you read the instructions in the Canvas Assignment carefully and put the correct types of oil, and grease on the instrument. An error here can be a costly mistake that would make you instrument unplayable and have to be repaired. In light of the current situation that would be a devastating setback. If you have ANY questions take a picture and reach out to your primary director before proceeding!
Percussion families, Mr. Jennings and Mr. Mulligan will be using Canvas to send you assignments. If you have any issues please reach out to them directly.
As a parent of a child in FISD I can understand the uncertainty of how all this is going to work. We will do our best to be flexible, and helpful. Above all I hope that in playing their instrument, and listening to music our students can find an escape, and comfort in music. Please do not hesitate to reach out if I can be of any help.
See you all soon,
Mr. Davis
FAQ
My child left their instrument at school, when can I get it back?
- We are expecting a plan for that to be announced if this closure lasts more than a week. In the meantime your child can submit recordings into canvas where they note name IN time with an audible metronome what they would be playing. Please reach out to your primary director if you need assistance in setting up alternative assignments.
My child forgot my SmartMusic username and password:
- username-Your child's Frisco ISD email
- Password-ScogginsBand1!
Our device at home does not work with SmartMusic:
- Students may record via a phone w/ an audible metronome and upload to Canvas for credit. Please communicate with your director if you need assistance in submitting this in an alternative fashion.
Help! I'm not a band director, I don't know what they are doing:
- Good News! We have been using all of these programs all year, so none of this should be new to anyone. However, if you need guidance please do not hesitate to reach out to your primary band director and we will be more than happy to assist in any way we can.
