WBMS Friday Notes
April 22-26
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
We finished 8th grade standardized testing and are ready for fun at Wacky Webb Day this evening! Please come and join us!
Our 7th graders have been hard at work creating a beautiful butterfly garden to welcome the butterflies they are watching complete metamorphosis. They have really enhanced our back garden area! This week our 6th graders have been digging into astronomy, modern issues around the world, brain busters, and ratios and proportions.
Please be on the lookout for several items on Monday. We will send home grade reports to give you a summary of where your students are as we move into the last month of the 2018-19 school year, and Fulton County will send an end of year survey via email to all parents. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey that will ask questions about the county and our local school. We are committed to improvement and take your feedback seriously. Lastly, 8th grade parents, please also be on the lookout for the high school credit acceptance letter, which is due back Friday.
Again, we hope to see you tonight, but however you select to spend your weekend, I hope it is filled with laughter and love.
In collaboration,
Rebecca Williams Perkins
Principal, Webb Bridge Middle School

Best-selling author Becky Albertalli
Webb Bridge will welcome best-selling author Becky Albertalli on Monday, April 29th, in the media center to discuss her writing process and her next book as well as answer questions about her experiences as an author. Mrs. Albertalli (sister of our own chorus teacher, Caroline Goldstein) is the author of award-winner Simon vs Homo Sapiens Agenda, the book on which the movie Love, Simon was based. She has also written two other books (Leah on the Offbeat and The Upside of Unrequited), co-authored one (What If It’s Us), and is in the process of co-authoring a second book. Students in 8th grade chorus have a guaranteed seat to the program and other interested 8th graders signed up in language arts classes to attend the program. Seventh graders were given the option to sign up to attend with permission from their 8th period teacher.
Autographed copies of Mrs. Albertalli’s first and most recent books (Simon and What If It’s Us) will be available at a discounted price through Barnes & Noble to be delivered on April 29th; they may be ordered in advance through OSP at http://bit.ly/wbmsalbertalli
Relay for Life
As we near the May 11th Relay at Webb Bridge Middle School, our staff and students have been actively raising funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society! Our student council sold over 50 t-shirts with our “Webb Way for a Cure” team name. Shirts will be delivered soon. Jr. Beta is preparing a “pick a number” fundraiser with purple stars (color of Relay for Life) where “everyone is a winner” for a $1 donation. This activity will take place next week prior to the start of school. Our Media Center has prepared a Reading for Relay program where students find sponsors who will support and encourage their reading with a donation when they meet their reading goal. Students can register at https://tinyurl.com/ReadForRelay. Ms. Swartz’s Compass class is planning a coffee/donuts/fruit cart to be shared with the staff next week during Compass to raise funds for ACS. The school will have a “Hat Day” next Friday, May 3rd where students and staff may wear their favorite hat for a $1 donation. And FBLA continues to sponsor a Morning Bingo (next Thursday at 7:50 in the Media Center) and promote luminarias where you can dedicate a bag In Memory of, In Support of, or In Honor of someone who has been touched by cancer. Bags may be purchased for $10 each through our team website at: https://tinyurl.com/WebbWayForACure.
Please mark your calendar for May 11th from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the North Fulton Relay for Life event here at Webb Bridge Middle School. Come for the afternoon, evening, survivor’s walk, luminaria ceremony, or even just an hour and see why WBMS is proud of their participation in this year’s Relay and their Webb Way for a Cure team!

Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
Please help support Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, to raise money for crucial research that will bring us closer to a future free from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (IBD). Over 1.6 million American adults and children are affected by these digestive diseases, and recent research unfortunately indicates the effected population could be nearly 2x that. While many suffer in silence, Take Steps brings this community together in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
Your donation will help fund local patient programs, as well as important research projects that will benefit patients and their families, wherever they reside. This cause is very important to us and we appreciate your help as we fight for cures! In addition to donating, you can join the fun at the walk June 1! There will be food, music and family activities.
Please use this link to join us on Walk day or contribute to our efforts to support CCF in finding a cure!
