Friday Focus
April 3 - April 7
Our mission is to provide the personalized support needed for every student to grow and reach their personal best, taking into account the unique academic, social and emotional needs of each child.
April is Autism Awareness Month
The ninth annual World Autism Awareness Day is April 2, 2017. Thousands of iconic landmarks and buildings join the hundreds of thousands of homes and communities around the world to “light blue” in support of people living with autism. Autism-friendly events and educational activities take place all month to increase understanding and acceptance and further support people with autism.
At MWE, we will “Light it Up Blue” on Monday, April 3.

Saturday, May 6, 2017
Location: Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum
901 Yorkchester, Houston, TX 77079
Proceeds from the Running for the Arts 5K & Art Fest benefit Spring Branch ISD's ARTS Partners Program. The ARTS Partners Program affords many SBISD students the opportunity to visit and experience an art performance at an exceptional cultural arts venue, which otherwise may not be possible.
Proceeds also benefit the SBISD Health Fitness Program to provide equipment and assistance to SBISD Heath Fitness Departments.
Although we were in the Top 10 schools with student participation, we only had had 57 MWE students participating (11%). This year, we have set a goal of 100 students. The top 3 schools last year were Bunker Hill (31%), Houseman (18%) and Memorial Drive (17%).
If you are unable to attend, you can still participate by being a Saturday Sleep-In Sponsor.
Sponsorships are available, if needed.

From Kristen Carlson, PTA President
Our next PTA meeting is Wednesday, April 5th. We would love to see some new faces, so gather up your friends, and join us in the Multi Purpose Room at 9:00 a.m.
We will be voting to approve our slate of executive officers for 2017-18, and we will also be discussing and hopefully filling many of the open chair positions for next year. We need to have chairs in place by May, in order to finalize plans and ensure that ALL of our wonderful PTA programs and events can continue next year.
Our board consists of 50+ chairs/co-chairs, so we hope you will consider stepping up to take a role! Please check out the list of open positions below, and email kristen.t.carlson@gmail.com<mailto:kristen.t.carlson@gmail.com>, if you’d like more info.
Finally, I apologize for begging, but…WE NEED A TALENT SHOW CHAIR! This fun MWE traditions usually takes place the last week of school but the entry forms need to go out NOW. Please understand that many of the officers and board members have multiple roles in PTA, and work year-round to keep things running smoothly. They cannot take on this task. If we don’t get a chair/co-chair by mid April, the show will be canceled.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to seeing you on Wed.
Kristen
