Stanley Avenue Learner Dimensions

At Stanley Avenue School we have four key learner dimensions that are important for success in learning and in life as our students adapt to a complex and changing world. The learner dimensions focus on the whole child and are referred to frequently in class, within teams, when reporting to parents/ whānau, during Assemblies and in our day to day school life.

I asked the students quoted below from Room 6 ( Year 3/4 ) about what it means to display Manaakiatanga/ Team Player. Here are their responses:

Kate Naude: ‘To help and support others with their activity.’

Class Treaty Whare flying high in Room 13

1) Room 13 were thrilled this week to finally have their Class Treaty Whare erected on the ceiling. After about six attempts from Mrs Hamilton and Room 13 of different ways to suspend it, she finally consulted Mr Durbin who suggested a pulley system. Room 13 is so excited to see the vision come to completion. Feel free to pop in and check it out in person!

Thank you!!!

A warm thank you to Eyvonne Knight, who has donated $100 towards our school Library and a Pohutukawa seedling on behalf of the Knight Family. She was a student at Stanley Ave 'back in the day' and her father Jim Knight (Charlie) was our School Caretaker and we have a friendship seat named after him.

Thank you so much Eyvonne. It is always wonderful to have past pupils and staff keep in contact and show support for our Kura.

Peer mediators

Some Team Tui members have been proud to take on the role as peer mediators. These students assist around the playground at lunchtime with children who need help. This can be helping younger children find friends to play with, supervising the 'Chill Zone' and encouraging other children in the playground. Mrs Hamilton is very proud of the students who have taken up the role and always enjoys checking in on students playing in the 'Chill Zone'. Here are a few snaps of peer mediators out on duty and children playing together in the Chill Zone.

Team Tui - Camp Waitawheta

Team Tui are getting excited about their upcoming camp from the 4th-6th of April at Waitawheta Camp. Camp fees are due by the end of March. Thank you to all who have returned their forms and paid for camp.

There is a parent meeting on the 22 March, explaining details of the camp and to answer any questions. This is a time where you can discuss with teachers any information they need to know about your child to set them up for a successful camp experience. This meeting will also assist parents coming as 'Day Helpers' to know what to expect.

The 'Overnight Parent Helper' meeting is on Wednesday the 29th of March at 5:30 pm. It is important that all overnight parents attend. If for any reason you can not make it, contact Debbie Hamilton
