Flocabulary Black History Rap Contest
From now until Feb. 28, Flocabulary is inviting students, grades 3-12, to write a rap about a black American, living or deceased, who they feel has made a significant impact on history. The winner will receive an expenses-paid trip to the Flocabulary headquarters in Brooklyn, New York to help record their song with a Flocabulary artist!

TELPAS speaking is still an odd concept for most of our students. You can remedy that with the implementation of a Flipgrid in your content!

How can I use this in my content???
Exit Tickets- Post a question. What did you learn today? etc.
Reflect on a lesson or unit- How did it go? What was your favorite part? The teacher can look at their responses to plan for next year.
Formative Assessments - check for understanding.
Homework help - Students can share what they found challenging or easy about the assigned homework.

How can I use this in Math?
Number Talks- Students share their voice and add to the conversation
Weekly Math Problem- Review of current topic.
Student Math Challenge- Have students develop math story problems and other students solve the problem.
Find the Mistake- post video or picture of math problem that was solved incorrectly. Students find error and explain in the response how to solve it correctly.
Compare differences- between two and three-dimensional objects, multiplication and division, compare fractions and describe how 1/2 of a small object may be larger than 1/4 of a large object
Students explain how they solved a certain problem- show an order of operations problem and have the students verbalize how/why they solved the problem the way they did.
How can I use this in English/Language Arts?
Reading Response- class reads chapter/book and respond to a question about their reading.
Book Talks- Students share about their favorite book.
Students describe their favorite idiom.
Ask students to explain differences between fiction and non-fiction, similes and metaphors, poems and drama, etc.
Share published writing. Or have them read their writing to you.
Running Records - have students read on the Flipgrid while you work with a small group, you can access their fluency later from the recordings.
How can I use this in Science/Social Studies?
Compare/Contrast topics of study
Have students defend pros/cons of energy resource or type of government
Post instructional video, have students respond with thoughts/explain main idea
Post diagram or political cartoon, have students describe it.
How can I use this in Electives?
Have students practice their scales or record or piece of music they’re working on for competition/performance
Too many kids trying out, have them do their readings on a Flipgrid
Post a fitness challenge and have students share their heart rate or challenges/successes afterward.
Have students describe their artwork and the meaning behind the piece.
INSPIRE Aldine 2019

Film Categories
Documentary – Instructional, informative, PSA, etc.
Narrative - Telling a story, drama, comedy, suspense, etc.
60 Second Short – Any video 60 second or shorter video on any topic, including music videos, and book Trailers.
Broadcast Journalism– A feature story that will be between 2-3 minutes long and will be reviewed based on journalistic criteria. The story should include an interview, b-roll, quality sound, and lighting.
All submissions must be turned in via a YouTube link, using the student or teacher’s YouTube channel by April 5th, 2019.
