What a great week to be a STALLION!
The implementation of the new changes went awesome last week! It took the students several days to map out the one way hallways, but by Thursday, it was a well oiled machine. On Monday of this week, we are going to supply every student with a new ID, lanyard, ID holder, and bathroom card. It is an expectation that they wear their ID around their neck and that it be visible. If it is not, they will receive a consequence. Also they will have a universal restroom pass that they can keep in the ID holder. This is what they will use for bathroom breaks. It is the students responsibility to keep up with these items. I felt it was important to start over and give everybody a new one. I want everyone to have a start fresh. Everyone will be able to follow the expectation at no cost. If they lose it, they will have to purchase a new one.
Reminder of the Spring changes:
1. Structured Lunches will continue – Teachers will escort their classes to the cafeteria each lunch period.
2. Lanyards and IDs – All students will be required to wear their ID around their neck at all times during the day. This starts on 2/19/2019. Students can buy a school ID at the attendance office before school for $3 if they have lost their free one. We do not sell school IDs during the instructional day.
3. Added Duties throughout the Building – Teachers/staff assigned to duty locations during each passing period. Teachers will be present in their pods/hallways pushing students to class and addressing behavior/dress code concerns. Teachers are in the hall to help with traffic flow.
4. Character Education Lessons – The counselors will start pushing into classrooms with character ed lessons and Mr. Bradley will also start doing these during lunch.
5. One Way Hallways – The front and back halls will now be one way. The back hallway will go from the "B" House/Gym area to the "A" House. The front hallway will go from the "A" House area to the "B" House. Traffic will be two-way in the breezeway, A & B House, 300 Hall, and 500 Hall.
6. Constable presence – We now have a constable that will be following students into Greensbrook after school to ensure student safety.
7. Campus Wide Restroom Passes – Students will receive a punch/initial card that can be placed in their ID holder. This punch card will have 8 horseshoes on it. It will be used in ALL classes when a student needs to use the restroom. If a student runs out of horseshoes, they may trade a lunch detention for a restroom pass. It is each student’s responsibility to keep up with their restroom pass.
8. Additional Administrative Support – Dr. Carrier is a new administrative team member who will be on campus this spring.
9. 15/15 Rule – No students are allowed out of class during the first 15 minutes of each class period and the last 15 minutes of each class period.
Thanks for all that you do!
See you around the campus...
Remember, we are the Best school with the Best students and the Best faculty and staff. Good, Better, Best!!! Never let it rest, until your good gets better and your better gets best!
Sincerely,
Leroy Bradley II

One School, One Book
Dear Parent/Guardian: This month our school will be embarking on a special project, an all-school book club called One School, One Book™. Every student will have access to the same book titled Fish in Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. I am personally asking you to make the time so that your family can participate in this special activity. Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader, and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. Our 6th grade students will read the book with their ELA teachers and our 7th and 8th grade students will read it with their electives teachers. However, all students will have access to additional copies in the library, which they may check out. With the One School, One Book™ program, we aim to build a Community of Readers at our school. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, and even administrative staff will all be following along together. Along with the book, you will receive a reading schedule so that you can keep up at home.

It’s normal for teens to start to pull away from their parents. Keep yours closer by cultivating shared interests in music, a sports team, or anything you both enjoy. You’ll create neutral ground for discussions that can keep the lines of communication open.

Thinking challenge! Ask your child to solve this puzzle. She must measure exactly 4 oz. of water, without a measuring cup. Pretend she has a 3-oz, 6-oz., and 8-oz. container. Can she tell you how to do it? Can she do it using only a 3-oz and 5-oz. container?

If your child often wants to skip school, has mysterious injuries, or loses belongings, it’s possible he’s being bullied. Encourage him to confide in you. If he admits that bullying is the problem, document details and arrange a meeting with his school.

Spring break will be here soon. Suggest that your teen start a list of “beach reads,” whether she’s staying home or going away. She could search online for “teen beach reads” to find books that appeal to her. Join her in a week-long reading challenge!

Foster an interest in current events by sharing stories that are relevant to your teen. You might show him an article about a scientific discovery, or listen to a podcast about the latest food trends.

Is your teen overscheduled, or just plain busy? If she has little downtime or isn’t getting enough sleep, or if her days are jam-packed, help her scale back. Suggest that she drop an activity or two to give herself some breathing room.

A family cooking contest is the perfect excuse to spend time together while sharing a home-cooked meal. Plus, your teen can pick up some cooking skills. Have a chili cook-off, see who can create the fluffiest omelets, or vote for the best fruit dessert. Yum!
¡Sabroso!
